New Emilia - Warsaw announces tender

09 of April '20

One of Warsaw's most important monuments of modernist architecture will "move" to a new location. The Capital City of Warsaw is looking for a partner to fulfill this project.

The implementation of the investment is a public-private partnership, according to which Warsaw's partner, selected in a tender, will finance and build the New Emilia. Then, for a limited period of time, it will take over the management of the building. During this time it will be able to profit from providing the commercial part, but the city's conservatory, as a public place, will be open to the public.

Despite the difficult situation, related to the coronavirus epidemic, the city is acting and preparing new investment opportunities. We are counting on strong interest from potential partners. It's hard to imagine a more prestigious location in Warsaw for conferences and exhibitions, and the development of the building's interior with diverse greenery and the location of the facility in the surroundings of Swietokrzyski Park in the heart of the city, further increases the attractiveness of the place ," says Rafał Trzaskowski, mayor of Warsaw, and adds , " Financing under the PPP formula is an additional opportunity for the development of the local government. Thanks to cooperation with a private partner, we can benefit financially, but most importantly we benefit from the knowledge of specialists in the field.

Due to the current situation, Warsaw is setting a longer timeframe for the submission of documentation admitting to the tender - until June 30 this year. The work schedule envisages completion of the proceedings and signing of the contract in the second quarter of 2021.

"Old" Emilia

The "Emilia" Furniture Pavilion was built in the second half of the 1960s specifically for the Provincial Furniture Trading Company in Warsaw. According to the designers' idea, customers could see the store's offerings from all sides, thanks to the glass facade. At first "Emilia" could be walked around, but over time new buildings began to spring up on its sides. The Capital City of Warsaw decided to save it from oblivion and move it to a new location, where it would regain its former splendor. Originally the pavilion was located at the intersection of Emilia Plater and Swietokrzyska Streets, today the building is to be located atSwietokrzyski Park near the northern exit of the Palace of Culture and Science.

New Emilia

The New Emilia is to serve as an urban hothouse, with plans to create an exhibition and dining area. The Warsaw office BBGK Architekci is responsible for the project. The building will have three floors with a total area of just over 7,000 sqm. There will be a conference space in the underground section, and a winter garden on the ground and second floors . The goal is to replicate the historic building as closely as possible, which is why the entire project is supported by the Capital Conservator of Monuments.
