Professor Andrzej Bialkiewicz, rector of the Cracow University of Technology, has died

Professor Andrzej Bialkiewicz has died. He served as rector of the Cracow University of Technology from September 2020. His death was announced by the Cracow University of Technology.

Professor Andrzej Białkiewicz was born in 1954 in Czeladź. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology in 1978. He immediately began working in the Department of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture at the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology. He received his doctoral degree in 1987 on the basis of a dissertation on architecture of the interwar period and conservation issues. In 2005, he was awarded a doctoral degree in technical sciences. The title was awarded to him on the basis of his thesis entitled "The role of drawing in the architect's workshop. The Cracow school in the context of achievements of selected European and Polish universities". In September 2020, he was elected rector of the Cracow University of Technology.

Professor Andrzej Białkiewicz was the author and co-author of more than 140 scientific publications in national and international journals. The professor's main research interests included areas in the theory of contemporary architecture, the role of drawing in the activities of architects, the preservation of architectural heritage or the processes of giving architectural monuments modern functions. He was also the author and co-author of more than 180 completed architectural and conservation projects not only in Poland.
