A team of experts will work on the National Architectural Policy starting today. On November 28 this year, a meeting at the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw established a team of experts to work on the government program, which aims to create a comprehensive document defining the directions for the development of architecture and the quality of public space in Poland.
As Borislav Czarakchev, a member of the board of the Architects' Council of Europe, stressed during the event, thirty-five European administrations already have their architectural policies, so their absence today is the exception, not the norm. Poland is one of those exceptions. However, as Bohdan Biś Lisowski, Chairman of the Polish Architects' Council, reminded, this is not the first attempt to create a comprehensive strategy for the country's architectural and urban development, but this time it has a government mandate, and the process leading to the appointment of an expert team began earlier this year, in cooperation with Monika Wróblewska, Director of the Department of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy at the Ministry of Development and Technology.
Architectural policies as a European standard were discussed, among other things, during a three-day conference in Gdansk: Architectural policies - how to shape them globally and locally?
What will be the tasks of the newly established expert body? First of all, to analyze existing (foreign and domestic) solutions in the field of architectural policy, to develop the assumptions of the State Architectural Policy, to prepare a complete draft document, as well as to develop recommendations for the implementation and monitoring of the policy.

The Architectural Policy, however, is not intended to be a document for architects, but a systemic tool that will affect the quality of life of citizens, an element of a survival strategy in the face of modern challenges and an action with real reflection in legislation. The Ministry has set better space, better planning and better architecture as its goal.
At the Wroclaw Museum of Architecture, we officially began work on the State Architectural Policy. A document that is supposed to really improve the quality of life in Poland. Because the future doesn't happen - the future is designed. And good space is not a luxury. It is the foundation of security, community and a modern state. In the face of the climate crisis, housing deficit and growing social tensions, we must act wisely and responsibly. That's why we are creating a policy that will combine European ambitions with Polish everyday life and give us the tools for real change. I believe that together with experts and local governments we will build a plan that will leave a better space for future generations

Who will be part of the team to develop the State Architectural Policy? Representatives of the community of architects, interior designers, urban planners and civil engineers, including Prof. Agata Bonenberg, Boryslav Czarakchev, Piotr Fokczynski, Ryszard Gruda, Prof. Dominika Kuśnierz-Krupa, Prof. Ewa Kurylowicz, Bohdan Biś Lisowski, Prof. Piotr Lorens, Dr. Maciej Nowak, Prof. ZUT, Tomasz Radziewski, Filip Pachla and Roland Stańczyk. However, the list of more than thirty people is not closed - the process of creating the State Architectural Policy will be flexible, and representatives of other ministries, local governments, trade organizations, universities, associations and NGOs will also be able to participate in the work as experts supporting the substantive process.
