16 of December '22

"10 Questions to a Landscape Architect" is a new series of short talks inspired by the series "10 Questions to...". This time our attention is turned to landscape architects and architects. In today's episode, landscape architect Lukasz Dwroniczak (Dworniczak landscape architecture) talks about his approach to design.

1 Landscape Architecture is, in one sentence, this....

... building functional and attractive spaces based on the found natural and cultural qualities of a place.

2. The most underrated aspect of landscape architecture is...

... the role of rivers! Natural, wild and overflowing rivers create the most beautiful landscapes.

3. the most inspiring space for you is...

.... grądy forest.

4. the most important book related to landscape architecture....

"Wroclaw Green Islands" edited by Professor Alina Drapella-Hermansdorfer. This book had by far the greatest impact on me at the beginning of my career.

5 Most inspiring figure...

There are many, from the point of view of the creative professions it is worth exploring the work of Pawel Tkaczyk - a master storyteller....

6... I start the design process with...

... study and analysis.

7. favorite moment during the work is ...

I really like that moment in the design process when I manage to find (decipher) the canon of the place, which determines the layout of the whole project. Sometimes it's the ideal grid of divisions, sometimes it's the pattern of materials, and sometimes it's the symbolic message of individual elements. From this point, the designed solutions begin to fit together and the process speeds up a lot.

8 The most important realization in your career is....

Grow Green project in Wroclaw

9. dream project is?

I would love to design a landscaped road (e.g., expressway), but after thinking about it, I dream of doing an audit resulting in the removal of unnecessary signs, advertisements and barriers from public space.

10 Favorite plant is....

Sycamore maple.
