Lodz City Council connects city parks

24 of April '20

The city of Lodz has begun work on the creation of the Sokolowka Valley tourist trail. It will be a green corridor running along the Sokolowka River through three parks located in the river valley.

The project will connect the park on the Sokolowka River, the Mickiewicz Park and Wasiak's Pond, and will communicate Lagiewnicki Forest with bicycle trails at Włókniarzy Avenue.

attractive greenway

The main goal of the project, in addition to the creation of an attractive hiking and biking trail, is the revalorization of areas in the Sokolówka valley. Public space and green areas will be made more widely available, and Mickiewicz Park will gain its historical splendor.

Lodz also wants to emphasize the natural qualities of the river valley, create tourist infrastructure and expand the functions available in the parks with an environmental, historical and cultural education component. A very important aspect of the project is also the restoration of the Sokolówka River - the creation of a resident- and tourist-friendly space along the river, which currently flows along an unattractive and inaccessible concrete channel.

boat residents decide

Design work and the selection of appropriate solutions are still underway. We should learn more details and concrete plans in June this year. The investment and planned works were discussed in a live broadcast on April 17: Maciej Riemer - director of the Department of Ecology and Climate at the City Hall of Lodz, and Karol Lange - architect from Studium Architecture Studio. Hear about the details of the project and see what the Sokolówka area looks like now.

A consortium of companies STUDIUM - Pracownia Architektury and GRANTS Consulting is responsible for the design work. The project also includes public consultations, which are taking place online due to the state of the epidemic. The consultations will help the designers take into account the expectations and needs of Lodz residents. Thanks to this, it will be possible to propose such solutions and functions in the Sokolówka Valley that will meet the expectations of Lodz residents, and at the same time contribute to the creation of a new tourist attraction of our region.

Another consultation is scheduled for the last week of April . You can send your opinion and suggestions to: dolinasokolowki@gmail.com

Łódź City Hall plans to obtain funding for the project from the Regional Operational Program of the Łódź Province for 2014-2020, Priority Axis: VI Revitalization and endogenous potential of the region, Measure VI.2 Development of tourism economy, Sub-measure VI.2.1 Development of tourism economy.
