The next stage of revitalization of downtown Kalisz is underway! The city is holding public consultations on the project

13 of July '21

Kalisz authorities are vigorously pursuing revitalization programs and modernizing the city. In June they released a draft of the next stage of revitalization of the city center, specifically the area of Jabłkowskiego and Podgórze streets, which is currently undergoing public consultation. The old space is to undergo a major overhaul and, among other things, gain a new space for social activity and relaxation.

Revitalizations in Polish cities are in full swing! Kalisz has also joined the long list of cities, which has been vigorously and successively implementing revitalization projects since 2018. One of the latest, titled "Local Revitalization Plan Jabłkowskiego-Podgórze," implemented in cooperation with the Institute for Urban and Regional Development, concerns the area near Jabłkowskiego and Podgórze streets. The preliminary design, which was created by arch. Cezary Radziszewski, envisages renovation and modernization activities of the old space, which needs refreshing. The work specifically concerns the streets of Wojska Polskiego Avenue, Harcerska, Poznanska, Mikolaj Kopernik and Wojciech Jabłkowskiego. The project is currently undergoing public consultation.

What changes await the area of Jabłkowskiego and Podgórze streets? First of all, the surface of the streets and sidewalks will be replaced. There will also be changes in the organization of traffic: speed limits and more zones with priority for pedestrians and cyclists will be introduced. In addition, parking space is to increase, as well as that for relaxation and activity. There will also be fountains, benches and much more greenery than before. The facades of the townhouses will also be refreshed.

City authorities stress that residents have been waiting a long time for this project. The detailed scope of changes and activities will be known after public consultations are completed.

The draft of the local revitalization plan for Jabłkowskiego-Podgórze can be consulted on the website of the Kalisz City Hall until June 16. In turn, comments on the draft can be submitted until July 2.

Kalisz bets on greenery

Kalisz authorities are betting heavily on improving public space. As part of efforts to modernize and refresh space in the center, more and more greenery in various forms is also appearing. For example, some bus shelters have recently undergone a metamorphosis and have been covered with greenery. Plants planted into the ground even grow into the shelters, giving them a fresh and modern look.

Krystian Kinastowski, the mayor of Kalisz, who began his term in 2018, attaches great importance to the state of architecture and urban planning in the city. This is hardly surprising, as he himself is an architect by training. It was with the beginning of his term that elaborate revitalization projects began to be created and implemented in the city.

Other revitalizations in Kalisz

The city of Kalisz is currently carrying out several revitalization programs, within the framework of which it refreshes urban space and prepares it for new functions. One of them is "Kalisz - a course for revitalization," launched in late 2018. Its goal is to increase the level of activity and integration of the local community in revitalized areas. The project is implemented with the support of the Wielkopolska Regional Operational Program 2014 - 2020. As a result of the work, Zamkowa Street, Piskorzewska Street, as well as part of Śródmiejska Street have already undergone modernization.
