Casa Decor 2022 exhibition: the creative potential of Spanish architecture

27 of April '22

Casa Decor, the most important exhibition of design and interior trends in Spain, opened its doors on April 7 in Madrid. This year we will see as many as dozens of spaces during it, designed by renowned Spanish architects. Already, the organizers are pointing out the most pronounced trends of this year's edition, such as craftsmanship, innovation, technology, classicism versus futurism, organic and natural spaces, and finally sustainability, in the spirit of which many of the arrangements present at the exhibition were created. The status of the favorite material of Iberian architects, gained the Dekton by Cosentino quartz sinter, which appeared in many of the most commented projects.

Unlike a regular trade fair, during Casa Decor the public views the designers' ideas in the space of the rooms of a large townhouse, rather than in the trade fair hall, as is usually the case. This allows for a completely new, natural contact with the designs. All the rooms are put in the hands of the best Spanish architects, who treat the arranged rooms as a kind of showcase of personal style. This year, one of the finishing materials appears particularly often in the presented projects. Walking through the various floors, there is a full range of applications for Dekton sintering from Cosentino; from countertops and floors, to ceilings, wall coverings and even furniture.

Comad Arquitectos - "Templo 89"

The leading role of Dekton surfaces becomes apparent as soon as one enters the building. In the entrance hall, you'll find some 30 4mm thick Dekton slabs in the shade Rem, chosen by architects Beatriz and Teresa Enríquez Amo. The space is dominated by well-thought-out proportions and symmetry. The lobby's original element, a marble floor, was combined with wall cladding made of sintered Dekton by Cosentino, creating a kind of columns welcoming visitors to the exhibition. The intricate layout of the ceilings allowed for a peculiar play of light. The Comad Arquitectos studio additionally opted for two countertops and four support pillars made of Dekton.

Somos2Studio - "Roman bath".

Drawing inspiration from Roman public baths, Somos2Studio's space is as spectacular as it is majestic. Taking advantage of the four-meter high vaulted ceiling, the designers managed to create a very classical design. Dekton in the shade Kelya was used as wall and floor coverings, combining it with the shade Rem, shown in mosaic form. From this space, doors lead to two private rooms, clad with Dekton Khalo cladding in a polished XGloss finish.

Diego Rodríguez/Concepto DR - "Connected house".

On the second floor you will find one of the most anticipated offerings of this year's Casa Decor. The masterful hand of Diego Rodríguez has designed a living room where comfort, warmth and coziness are enhanced by the use of the latest home automation systems. A subtle interplay of textures, materials and natural light, is complemented by Dekton Nacre from the upcoming Kraftizen collection. Approximately 40 large-format Cosentino tiles were used in the design, arranged on the floor, wall (in a 4mm Slim version) and ceiling.

Jaime Jurado - "Púrpura"

Also on the second floor is an arrangement by an architect highly anticipated at Madrid's Casa Decor. Together with Monica Bartolessis, the Cordoba-based designer revealed his face as an artist, proposing a creative and intimate universe, a replica of an office in which to receive clients. The result is a warm space in a neutral color palette, in which Dekton Nilium, applied to the floor and door frames, plays its role. The bold design is also highlighted by a futuristic table made of Dekton Sirius, in a striking black shade.

Jacob Delafon - "Grand Boulevards."

The second floor of the exhibition houses one of the most eye-catching bathroom spaces at this year's Casa Decor. Pilar García de Gonzalo, Laura Huerta, Evelien Korte and Laura Pérez of U Interior Design are the authors of the Art Deco-inspired interior, inspired by 20th-century Paris. Thanks to the use of quartz sintering from Cosentino, they were able to give this space a touch of modernity. To do so, they opted for a stunning Dekton color from an upcoming, as-yet-unshown collection and used it for the wall cladding in combination with Dekton Edora, which was used for the floor.

Sinmas Studio - "Match"

As we enter the next floor, we move to the futuristic trends so strongly present at this year's Casa Decor. Sigfrido Serra and Mateo Climent of the Sinmas studio broke ground inspired by fashion designer André Courrèges. In this showroom, anything is possible. The groundbreaking and avant-garde arrangement is complemented by the personalized color Dekton ID. The material was used both on the wall and in the furniture, creating an original room and adding depth to the whole.

Héctor Ruíz-Velázquez - "Modular House".

A game of contrasts takes us from the Sinmas Studio design, to a uniquely functional space designed by Héctor Ruiz-Velázquez. The contrast between the strong colors in matte finishes, provides balance and harmony to the whole. Dekton Neural flooring adds elegance and style to the space.

Estudio Reciente - "Reflejo"

We end our tour of Casa Decor 2022 on the fourth floor. Here Carlos Tomás of Estudio Reciente proposes a space conceived as a personal bath salon. A reinterpretation of luxury, the "Reflejo" bathroom features a slant with a staircase that creates a pathway between the sink, tub and shower, reminiscent of works of art, made of Dekton surfaces and natural stone by Sensa by Cosentino. The exterior of the sink and bathtub, as well as the shower enclosure, is made of Sensa Vancouver material, which was also used on the doors, giving the entire space a sense of cohesion. Dekton Bergen dominates the interiors, while the floor is a neutral, light shade of Dekton Danae.
