The Future Living initiative combines the ecological aspects of sustainability with the rapid digitization of society and life. The project uses smart energy solutions including high-efficiency Panasonic air/water split heat pumps, photovoltaic (PV) panels and battery storage integrated into a smart and efficient energy management system.

efficient energy management

Energy experts and software engineers at the Panasonic Research & Development Center in Europe have developed a smart energy management solution to optimize energy use and link the electricity and heating sectors. The smart control combines heat pumps with other efficient and environmentally friendly Panasonic technologies, such as photovoltaic panels. These technologies are integrated into an efficient energy-saving solution, not only controlled but also continuously optimized by Panasonic's ever-newer energy management functionalities.

The solution is a world first, developed as a joint venture with leading research institutions in the field of decentralized energy management. In simulations conducted with leading university research laboratories, we have achieved energy consumption improvements of up to 15 percent ," explains Ralf Becker, Project Leader Energy Group at Panasonic R&D Centre Europe.

A big step towards sustainable living

The main energy component in the Berlin project is Panasonic's Aquarea air/water heat pump. The highly energy-efficient technology, powered by a source of renewable energy from 600 Panasonic HIT photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 195 kWp, operates virtually emission-free in terms ofCO2 production. Thanks to patented silicon technology, Panasonic's photovoltaic system is 10% more efficient than conventional modules. In addition, Panasonic's HIT technology performs significantly better in high-temperature environments due to its higher temperature coefficient - an important advantage in adapting to advancing climate change.

Using renewable energy sources, the air-to-water system can be used not only for heating but also for hot water generation. To increase efficiency, the heat pumps have a built-in network module for management from the Aquarea Service Cloud for installers. This further reducesCO2 emissions - service visits can be organized much more efficiently and even carried out partially remotely.

The proposed energy solutions are bundled into the smart Aquarea Service Cloud, which allows users to monitor energy consumption and manage temperature settings accordingly, resulting in savings.

In pursuit of further sustainable and environmental goals, the neighborhood's residents are part of a broader, eco-friendly community that promotes a variety of solutions like car sharing, shared washing machines and Panasonic energy solutions.

digital convenience

The digitization of the innovative Future Living Berlin neighborhood starts right at home. With smart-compatible solutions, residents can connect a variety of appliances, such as Panasonic TVs or smart speakers, as well as those related to safety, security and smart buildings that enhance the overall comfort of users.
