Krakow is expanding the structures responsible for shaping architecture and urban planning. On April 24, 2026, Krakow Mayor Aleksander Miszalski inaugurated another of them, the Krakow Architecture Council, whose ranks include the best specialists in architectural design and urban spatial development. What will the Krakow Council of Architecture do and who are its members?
In addition to the Office of the City Architect, the Municipal Architectural and Urban Planning Commission and the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Krakow is gaining another body to deal with issues of urban spatial development. The Krakow Architecture Council, established by an ordinance of Aleksander Miszalski, Mayor of the City of Krakow, dated February 27, 2026, will be tasked with supporting Janusz Sepioł, Chief Architect of the City of Krakow, in making the most important decisions concerning architecture and urban planning in the capital of Malopolska. According to the magistrate, the Krakow Council of Architecture is expected to help raise the level of debate on the quality of architecture and public spaces in Krakow.

The Council, acting in an advisory and consultative capacity, will support the City's efforts to improve the quality of public spaces, the urban landscape and architecture, without infringing on the rights of property owners and investors. Its functioning will contribute to raising design standards and increasing transparency and public trust in the process of shaping Krakow's space. The Council will also constitute a body that initiates innovative architectural and urban planning solutions of particular importance for Krakow and its space.

According to the Office of the City of Krakow, the activities in the Council are of a social nature, and the meetings will be held periodically, several times a year and in special cases when there is a need for consultation.
The first, inaugural meeting, during which the Chief Architect of the City of Krakow Janusz Sepiol outlined the most important challenges of Krakow's development, was held on Friday, April 24, 2026, in the Meeting Room of the Krakow City Council at Wszystkich Świętych Square.

award for the best buildings in Krakow
Along with the information about the first meeting of the Council, a mention of a new architectural competition in Cracow was also included between the lines. The Competition for the Award of the Mayor of the City of Krakow for the Best Architectural and Urban Design Buildings, the existence of which was first announced at the beginning of March this year, is to distinguish Krakow's realizations of the highest quality. It is the members of the Krakow Architecture Council who will form the independent and objective jury in this competition. The award of the Mayor of the City of Cracow is not the only "competition" task of the new Council - the specialists belonging to it will also power the competition juries in the planned future realization competitions in the city.
