Autumn in the Zodiac. Meetings, lectures and workshops at the Warsaw Architecture Pavilion

10 of September '20

Autumn in the Zodiac promises to be really interesting! The Warsaw Architecture Pavilion is launching a new series of meetings, lectures and workshops (for adults and young people!). The lectures of the More Than Architecture series will be inaugurated today by Wilhelm Sasnal - painter, draughtsman, filmmaker and creator of comic books, whose works can be found, among others, in the collections of the Paris Pompidou Center, London's Tate Modern or the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

More than architecture

The More Than Architecture lecture series will focus on architecture at the intersection of other areas of life. Experts from different areas of culture, art and science, in whose work architecture plays an important role, have been invited to participate. All lectures will be available to listen to live in the Zodiac (after advance registration) or online, on YouTube and Facebook platforms. Invited guests include Filip Springer, Boris Kudlička and Miroslaw Balka. More information can be found here.

Archive of the Future

On September 12, the Zodiac will host original workshops for young people (16-19 years old) led by architectural historian Adam Przywara and architect Igor Lysiuk:

Learning about the history of Warsaw, as well as other cities, need not be limited to leafing through volumes of historical literature or archival materials. Architecture or urban layout are also specific forms of historical record. Specific, because they are difficult to read and, in addition, subject to constant changes. The latter, in Warsaw of the 21st century, have happened a lot. Therefore, we can already think about what stories the capital will tell historians in the coming decades.

Also on Saturday, September 12, the first workshop of the City of the Future series will be held, which aims to reflect on the challenges of the future, such as climate change or changes in social relations and needs in the context of city architecture and life in the city. The workshops, in the form of walks around the city, will be led by architects and experts they have invited from other areas of city research. The first of these will be a meeting with Leszek Wisniewski and Wiktor Morozowski - City in Motion:

Autonomization, avionization, electrification, digitalization... Have you ever wondered what your mobility will look like in 30 years? What will the streets look like in the future? We will try to answer these questions in a workshop aimed at understanding the impact that mobility trends will have on the space of Warsaw streets. The workshop will begin with a research walk on the streets in the vicinity of the Zodiak pavilion, after which we will consider what should change in their appearance and functioning, and what will change under the influence of global trends.
