The choice of the topic for my master's thesis was dictated by my personal passion and desire to deepen my knowledge in the field of acoustics - a field that has long been of interest to me, and in which I would like to further develop my professional competence. In the course of developing and analyzing the site, however, it became apparent that acoustical issues naturally merged with the broader challenges of operating a public space.

The object I chose - the Ucho music club in Gdynia at 2 St. Peter Street - presented me with another extremely interesting challenge. The analysis required looking at it not only from the perspective of the interior of the existing building, but also in the context of the surrounding, degraded area and, more broadly, the entire urban landscape.

The club was established in 2003 in the premises of a former boiler house. Since its opening, the venue has hosted thousands of concerts by artists representing a wide variety of musical genres - from jazz to rock to alternative and experimental music. This shows that it is an iconic and important place for the cultural life of the Tricity residents. However, it currently suffers from a number of problems - both in terms of poor interior standards and inadequate acoustic conditions. In addition, from an urban planning perspective, the crisis situation of the place is aggravated by its immediate surroundings - on the one hand, it is a degraded space of industrial and port character, and on the other hand, modern residential and office buildings, representing a completely different urban character. The "Ucho" club, unfortunately, fits into the former, degraded part of the urban fabric. In the context of contemporary social challenges and dynamic technological and cultural development, there is a real risk that this type of space will soon be transformed by residential or office development.

It is for this reason that the goal of my project is to create and present a new concept for the operation of the selected music club, which will make it one of the key cultural centers in Gdynia and the entire Tri-City. This project assumes a harmonious inclusion of the facility in the existing urban and cultural landscape of the city, as well as the contribution of a new idea that can positively influence the future revitalization of the degraded surroundings.

This can be achieved by developing a concept for the modernization of the site, including sustainable improvements that increase efficiency, comfort and quality of the space, combined with revitalization measures that revitalize the immediate surroundings. Thus, as part of my master's thesis, I decided to focus not only on interior design itself, but also on broader issues - urban-architectural, technical, social, economic and environmental.

The building I have chosen now, is not just a club or concert hall - it is a key space for dialogue, exchange of ideas and the development of music and local culture, especially that which is independent of the mainstream. This cultural and historical value cannot be overestimated and is the basis for immediate action to protect and revitalize this place, which cannot be replaced by another commercial development. As a person actively involved in the arts and representing the.creative community, I feel particularly strongly about the need to protect such places.

In this project, I also wanted to emphasize the significant role of the interior designer in contemporary city life, who, like the architect or urban planner, has a direct impact on how residents and visitors perceive the space, through an interior that works in synergy with the external environment, creating deeper experiences and interactions and enabling a fuller understanding of the city's history, culture and character.
