5 series whose interiors delight

05 of June '20

Not in every series the interiors are important or play a significant role. For a long time they were only a background for the adventures of the characters. However, the more they gain importance and come out from behind the glass screen to the Internet, the more interesting, intriguing and a real source of inspiration they become. At one time, probably many people wanted a kitchen like Monica from "Friends." Today it's more like Madeline's kitchen from "Big Little Lies."

1. "Big Little Lies"

In this series there is something for everyone - the individual characters are characterized by the different style in which their home is decorated. Renata boasts a modern mansion filled with designer furniture with a sizable terrace, from which the view is breathtaking. Madeline's aforementioned kitchen and the interior of her entire home were designed in the most classic, subdued style of coastal homes. Warm colors and well-chosen accessories create a cozy atmosphere in it. Celeste's house, standing between the trees, is open to the surrounding nature, which peeks inside through large glass windows. Here, too, you'll find modern inspiration, but it's a more homey interior, not as austere as Renata's. Bonnie arranged her space in a boho style using only natural materials - wood or stone, which harmonize perfectly with the forest surroundings of the house.

2. "Patrick Melrose"

Part of the action of the series, in which Benedict Cumberbatch plays the main role, is set in the French province in the house where little Patrick spent his childhood and later came with his children on vacation. The filmmakers shot the series in Vaucluse, Provence. The residence we see in the production dates back to the 18th century and is located in the small town of Malemort-du-Comtat. The house is surrounded by a park and an adjacent vineyard. Despite the strained relations between the residents, one can feel the unusual atmosphere of the place. The series is based on Edward St Aubyn's book of the same name.

3. "Succession"

The most famous serial interiors of large American mansions decorated with extraordinary splendor are those of "Dynasty" and "Fashion for Success". Both productions told Poles about a reality almost on the verge of fantasy, which was simply impossible during the period of broadcasting series in Poland. The bigger and more lavishly decorated the interiors were, the better. "Succession" also tells the story of an extremely wealthy family - a family of American billionaires. The interiors in this series exude glamour and luxury, and the ceilings are almost invisible - that's how high the rooms are. They are filled with stylish antiques or contemporary design, although both styles - modern and classic sometimes combine to give eclectic arrangements. However, luxury always comes first.

4. "Mad Man"

"Mad Man" is not only a good series, but also a real treasure trove of inspiration for lovers of 1960s interiors. Interestingly, it is not the places where the characters live that make the biggest impression, but the headquarters of the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce office, where the main character Don Draper works. Spacious rooms with windows sometimes filling an entire wall, from behind which you can see the view of New York, original patterned wallpaper on the walls - all this takes us back in time. Importantly - many of us would be happy to live in an interior arranged in this way even today! The exception to the less interesting domestic interiors is Draper's later apartment - much more modern compared to the suburban cottage where he lived with his wife and children.

5. "The Young Pope" and "The Crown".

We are not suggesting that the interiors from Paolo Sorrentino's series should be inspired, as most of them are known from the pages of art history. And that is precisely the point here. The director allowed us not only to look behind the scenes of the clergy's life in the Vatican, but especially the places where they spend most of their time. The images created by Sorrentino are characterized by great attention to aesthetics, so "The Young Pope" and "The New Pope" are a real feast for the eyes.

You can get a similar impression when watching "The Crown" telling the life of Queen Elizabeth II. The series was not filmed in Buckingham Palace, but in interiors that may resemble it, including Wilton House, Hylands House and Lancaster House. However, they show the great wealth of Britain in terms of the number of representative estates. Attention is also drawn to the "American interiors" of the third season, in which Princess Margaret goes on a tour of the United States with her husband.
