Form hidden behind function - the Baluna lamp

Intriguing minimalism. Bauhaus lamp from the Group

There are ideas in design that are eternally alive, repeated and recycled by successive generations of designers. Among such are certainly the principles of the Bauhaus. An excellent example of their creative use is the Baluna lamp.

Baluna was created by a trio of Croatian designers, working together as a Group. Their work definitely refers to the ideas of the Bauhaus (an art and craft college founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius), according to which the appearance of an object should be subordinate to its function, and therefore devoid of unnecessary ornaments. This minimalism in a new, 21st-century edition has resulted in an object of unusual and intriguing beauty, but so universal that it will work well in interiors of various styles.

captivating simplicity

The Baluna line includes hanging lamps, standing lamps, table lamps and wall lamps; the collection also includes a chandelier. Their common element is a spherical lampshade made of milky glass, embraced by a metal canopy (powder-coated black); it can rotate in it, allowing the user to direct the stream of light. A discreetly placed switch is also a dimmer. Thanks to these solutions, the lampshade transforms into a ball of light - the form really hides behind the function of the object. When switched off, however, the Baluna lamp reveals its own beauty, based on geometric simplicity, the play of brightness with black, the combination of delicate glass with solid metal.

light to accentuate the arrangement

Baluna will work well in both apartments and public buildings. Its shape, boldly plotted in the space with black and white, will be a great counterpoint to the thrifty Scandinavian-style arrangement, visually calms the glamour or retro space, emphasizes the elegance of the New York-type interior. It will perfectly complement any color scheme. In a larger room it is worth using two or three models from this line, such as wall lamps or a hanging and standing lamp. The beauty and practicality of Baluna go hand in hand with excellent quality (the Group is famous for combining modern technical solutions with precise, truly artisanal manufacturing of its products). This is lighting that will survive many rearrangements, as it will withstand both the ravages of time and the whims of fashion. And most importantly, in accordance with the guidelines of Bauhaus, it perfectly fulfills its task - it shines. And how!
