Beat Streuli in the series Thursdays with the MOCAK Collection. A show of the artist's work

16 of July '20

On Thursdays, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow can be visited free of charge. That's when, between 11am and 9pm, you can hole up in the Museum's audiovisual room to watch one of the films in MOCAK's collection. On this rainy Thursday, we'll take a look at an Australian beach with Beat Streuli.

Thursdays with the Collection is a project in which every Thursday - a day of free admission to MOCAK Collection exhibitions - you can see selected video works from the Museum's Collection in the audiovisual room. The screenings are also available online!

In July and August, as part of the summer installment of Thursdays with the Collection, we are presenting Beat Streuli's video "Surfers from Tamarama 01-24-01." The work shows a group of surfers near Tamarama Beach in Sydney. In an attempt to tame the elements, fun is mixed with testing physical fitness. People surface for a moment and are immediately pushed back underwater.

Beat Streuli - photography, installation, video. The artist is best known for portraying passersby in their daily wanderings. He captures city dwellers from all over the world. From the crowd he picks out people who have particularly caught his attention. He is interested in the moment when the mask intended for others falls from the face of the portrayed and the true face appears. The backdrop for the performances is usually dynamic modern metropolises.

Theshows take place all day in the audiovisual room from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. They are also available from 8:00 p.m. as a live stream on MOCAK's YouTubechannel.
