Culture for the weekend - we visit museums!

19 of June '20

The upcoming rainy weekend is better spent in a museum than on the couch. After being closed for more than two months, most cultural institutions have reopened. However, it was not without obvious changes. The web is scrolling with photos of empty museum spaces, whose only visitor is often the photographer himself. It's time to change that!

Krakow

MOCAK

At the Krakow Museum of Contemporary Art we can see, among others, the exhibitions we wrote about - "Contemporary Models of Realism" and "Dialogue with Space". Both expositions force viewers to reflect on the contemporary understanding of realism in art and how artists understand space and their relationship to it.

ICC

The International Cultural Center is still hosting the exhibition "Plants and Animals. Atlases of Natural History in the Age of Linnaeus." During the tour, we will see invariably delightful copperplates and lithographs depicting birds and animals, among others. Those who would like to take some of the exhibition home can purchase one (or all!) of the posters promoting the exhibition.

Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology

"Araki / Tsujimura. On the Border of Shadow, " an exhibition dedicated to two artists who are equally individual, controversial and deeply Japanese in their work. Nobuyoshi Araki with his loud and monumental work set trends and pushed boundaries in world photography. Shiro Tsujimura, on the other hand, considered a rebel and revolutionary in the circle of Japanese ceramics, broke through to the reality of contemporary art through his unique and muted style.

The Museum of Modern Art is showing an exhibition titled "The Age of Half Shadows. Art in a Time of Planetary Change," whose exhibition was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. The museum was thriving during the general closure - the exhibition could be viewed online. Today, however, we have a chance to see it live! It features works from the last 50 years, based on the observation and visualization of changes occurring on the globe. It provides a space for discussion of "managing the irreversible" and new forms of solidarity, empathy and being together in the face of the climate crisis.

Zachęta - National Gallery of Art

"Andrzej Krauze. Flying Lesson." The cartoonist is primarily associated with his satirical works, but this exhibition shows illustration and drawing created for newspapers over the past 30 years. At a special time for this medium - the tumultuous development of the press, but also the slow decline of the paper form and the conversion of the medium to digital format. "Flying Lesson" collects all original drawings created during the artist's 30-year collaboration with the British newspaper The Guardian.

Lodz

Museum of Art

The exhibition "Teresa Tyszkiewicz: day by day" is not a classic monograph or retrospective, as it abandons chronology in favor of creating an installation in which works from different periods of this over 40-yearartistic career resonate with each other, revealing - despite formal diversity - the internal structure of the artist's work. The exhibition also reveals the processuality and "organicness" of Tyszkiewicz's method, related to her struggle with matter, body and corporeality. The exhibition brings together nearly 80 works created between 1980 and 2019, many of which have never been presented.

Wroclaw

Museum of Architecture

ABOUT ME NOT HERE. The human dimension of architecture we have already written. However, we would like to remind you that the exhibition, which is a kind of story about the social role of the architect about Wroclaw, about the adventures of a certain generation and about the fidelity to deeply rooted beliefs, can already be viewed!

BWA Wroclaw

Wrocław's BWA has an exhibition entitled "Mobilki. Exhibition by Mariusz Waras". The Mobilki series is a collection of scaled-down toys - figures and objects activated by the viewer's hand. The simple technology, largely based on the technique used by the artist in the creation of murals, makes it possible to quickly produce works that are a manifesto, a spontaneous reaction to specific political and media events in Poland of the last two years.
