The deadline for participation in the 10th edition of the Roca jumpthegap® international design competition has been extended. Architects and designers from around the world now have until September 6 to develop solutions to revolutionize bathroom spaces in line with the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. There are 13 attractive financial prizes to be won, and the winners' announcement ceremony will be held in Barcelona on October 14 as part of Barcelona Design Week's City Festival.
Participants in the Roca competition can submit their projects at www.jumpthegap.net, either individually or in groups of two, within four categories:
- Wellness & Health - includes designs that provide users with new levels of comfort and tranquility, addressing values such as balance and harmony,
- [Un]neutral design - projects that emphasize the individualism of human nature and the desire for independence, which creatively relate to people's diverse talents,
- Water & Energy - projects with an eco spirit that appreciate the need for intelligent and conscious use of our planet's resources,
- Crisis & Emergency - projects that, through the use of flexible and reproducible materials and technologies, respond to the challenges of permanent crisis and emergency situations.
The competition projects will be judged by a jury consisting of: Shigeru Ban, Somi Kim, Paul Priestman, Andrea Trimarchi, Simone Farresin, Deborah Seward, Mariana Amatullo, Isabel Roig, Marc Viardot. A total of 13 pr izes worth a total of 17,000 euros will be awarded: four prizes of 2,000 euros for the winner in each category, eight prizes of 500 euros each for the first and second place winners in each category, and a grand prize of 5,000 euros for the "Best of the Best" project selected from the four winners.
The extension of the competition date is due to the improvement of the COVID-19 situation in Spain, allowing the hybrid award ceremony to be scheduled for October 14, 2021 at the Roca Barcelona Gallery, as part of the Barcelona Design Week City Festival, in keeping with the tradition and spirit of jumpthegap®.
