Kave Home invests €45 million in new 50,000 sqm logistics center to be expanded to 90,000 sqm

Kave Home is launching its new logistics center in Tordera, a key step to meet the company's high growth. The brand is using machines and automated systems to increase process efficiency. It is betting on the circular economy, placing a furniture recovery and recycling department at the center.

Barcelona, June 2, 2023. The Girona-based furniture and decor brand is opening a new logistics platform in the Mina d'Or area of Tordera, near Barcelona. The company has invested 45 million euros in the construction of the first 50,000-square-meter hangar, 17
meters, which was completed at the end of the first quarter of 2023.

The macro logistics complex includes a furniture recycling and recovery center, a research and development area and will create 150 new jobs. In addition, 40% of its operations will be automated.

Semi-automated system

The facility will have a daily handling capacity of more than 40,000 packages, has 59 loading docks and a storage capacity of 50,000 pallets of containers. It is equipped with an automated belt system that autonomously distributes products from shelves to
handling zones and loading bays, creating effective and efficient work processes, achieving production capacities of up to 3,000 packages per hour. In addition, the company's entire logistics department team has moved into the facility to operate within the platform

The center has different types of storage, depending on product type and rotation. osiad a combination of high-density racking, where pallet retrieval areas are created at a lower level and distributed through automated equipment,
robotic racking, which allows high efficiency and agility to efficiently handle all decorative products, and conventional racking.

As Francesc Julià Ametller, CEO, said: "The launch of this new logistics platform represents a very important step in the company's history, necessary to support our growing multi-channel brand ecosystem and our unique value proposition in the market. With the opening of this new center, we have taken the opportunity to multiply the capacity of our furniture remanufacturing and recovery teams, which is essential to achieving our circular economy goals."

Technology

The Kave Tech team worked to establish technological processes that enable optimal communication and management in the logistics complex, creating a task system that allows operations to be tracked and performance analyzed. In addition, new picking systems were implemented to increase operational efficiency, a new shipment labeling system and data dashboards for real-time decision-making.

The facility is also equipped with a wireless connection across the platform with no signal loss, a direct communication system between operators using PDAs, and a mobile application for managing internal operations.

Innovation and sustainability

Kave Home is clearly committed to innovation and sustainability by aligning its logistics platform with the Kave Cares project. The facilities are BREEAM-certified (internationally certified for environmentally friendly facilities), generating energy entirely through 5,500 megawatts-per-hour photovoltaic panels per year, allowing for self-sustainable supply and improved employee comfort through heating and air recirculation systems. The Kave Cares project (the company's sustainability and social commitment) has been a fundamental pillar of the company in recent years and an area around which the brand's strategic focus on initiatives in this direction revolves. Kave Home's commitment in this aspect is very significant and, as they emphasize in their mission statement formula, they aim to become a zero carbon footprint and zero waste company through the introduction of various transformational projects that have already been undertaken or will soon be initiated.

Expanding the project

The second phase of the project is scheduled to begin in mid-2023. This phase will include an additional 40,000 sqm, bringing the total to 90,000 sqm, and will involve an investment of €25 million.

The company ended 2022 with a turnover of €153 million and growth of 34%, doubling its 2020 turnover.The brand currently has a market presence in 32 countries, with 15 of its own stores, 22 franchise stores and 80 shop-in-shop outlets, and
is experiencing high growth in all sales channels. Of note is the opening of 42 new stationary stores in 13 countries, including 2 own stores and 40 franchise and shop-in-shop stores. It is estimated that in 2023 the company's turnover will be
close to €205 million. The brand recently opened a new franchise store in Como, Italy, and its own store in Metz, France, where it plans to open more stores in major cities in 2023.
