Program, space, material. 10 questions for Kuba Snopek

19 of November '20

"10 Questions to..." is a series of short interviews with architects and female architects, to whom we address the same pool of questions. In today's installment of the mini-interview, architecture researcher and urban planner Kuba Snopek answered our ten questions.

Kuba Snopek - urban planner, educator and urban researcher. Graduate of PWr, Strelka Institute and UC Berkeley. Program director of the Kharkiv School of Architecture and a long-time lecturer at Moscow's Strelka Institute. He is the author of the book "Belyaevo: Monument of the Future," dedicated to the protection of intangible heritage and the project "Architecture of the VII. Day," a study of churches built in Poland in the second half of the 20th century. He is also co-author of "Scena" - an award-winning public space in the city of Dnipro, created through crowdsourcing and crowdfunding. He is currently working on "Real Estate Art," a critical study of art funded by developers.

5. architect with whom you would like to design something and why...?

Halina Skibniewskaya. First, she is a representative of the modernist generation, which thought about architecture with flair and imagination. Second, Skibniewska was able to open up to the world outside of architecture if it would help create good space. For example, she worked as an MP, including on the construction committee. Third, she had her original design method; her goal was first and foremost to create good space, which did not necessarily mean putting up new buildings.

6. hand-drawing or computer drawing?

First of all - pen. For thinking - hand-drawing and text; for documentation production - computer.

7. Mock-up or 3D model?

Mock-up.

8. modernism or postmodernism?

Modernism, of course.

9. working after hours or sports?

After hours - relaxation (sometimes sports, sometimes movies, sometimes books).
