Krakow aperitif, or Malopolska events of the Congress of Polish Architecture

TheCongress of Polish Architecture, the most important architectural event in recent years, will be held in Warsaw on May 14 and 15, 2026, but it is in Krakow on May 11 and 12, 2026, that discussions will begin on the role that architects play in the process of creating our cities. What events accompanying the Congress have been prepared by the Malopolska District Chamber of Architects of Poland?

Architecture is a field of design that often requires compromises. Architectural visions are limited by construction law, but also by context and conservation guidelines, as well as by budget and investors' needs. How to navigate this maze of expectations and constraints so that the results of creating architecture are satisfactory to all? This is the question that will be debated by participants in discussions organized by MPOIA RP on May 11 and 12, 2026 in Krakow.

May 11, 2026, 16:00-18:30 - Architectvs. Conservator

The Małopolska events accompanying the Congress of Polish Architecture will begin with a debate on cooperation between architects and conservators. On the architects' side, its participants will be Oskar Grąbczewski (OVO Grąbczewscy Architekci), Piotr Lewicki (Biuro Projektów Lewicki Łatak) and Jerzy Wowczak (Autorska Pracownia Projektowa Jerzy Wowczak).

The conservation environment, in turn, will be represented by Marek Wawrzkiewicz (Head of the Studio of Conservation and Restoration of Stone Sculpture, Stucco and Ceramics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow), Piotr Białko (Piotr Białko Conservation Company) and Jarosław Adamowicz (Dean of the Faculty of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow). The discussion will be moderated by Marek Sanecki (SANECCY).

May 12, 2026, 16:00-18:30 - Architectvs. Investor

What is the role and importance of the architect in the investment process? During the debate organized by the Małopolska Regional Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland, Krzysztof Ingarden (Ingarden & Ewý Architects), Józef Białasik (B2 studio) and Małgorzata Dembowska (WXCA) will answer this question, as willas well as Piotr Grochowski (Arche Group), Łukasz Szewczyk (Director of the Management Board of Municipal Investments in Krakow) and Agnieszka Widłak-Lindsay (President of the Krakow Branch of the Polish Association of Developers). The moderator of the meeting will be Prof. Marta Urbanska.

May 12, 2026, 7:00 pm - Architectversus Architectural Work

The second day of Małopolska events accompanying the Congress of Polish Architecture will conclude with the opening of the exhibition "Architectcontra Architectural Work", presenting the work of architects gathered around the Małopolska District Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland. During the vernissage there will also be a plebiscite, during which guests will vote for selected works, as well as the presentation of awards to their authors.

We trust that it will be possible to delete the ending from the Latin preposition "contra", proving that only the Spanish preposition "con" allows to achieve results satisfactory to all involved in the creation of architecture.
