A man's point of view

19 of January '24

The futuristic masses of the buildings of Krakow's Wiślane Tarasy 2.0 housing estate suggest that the interiors must be equally interesting. One of them was decorated by the NONO group for an independent, dynamic man. Simple, austere, yet cozy emphasizes the personality of the owner. Inspired by nature, the mountains and his hometown, it has become a real oasis of calm, a place to work and relax.

The premise of the project was to create a calm interior for a mature person. Cozy, warm, wrapped in wood, which is associated by the Investor with his native land. The apartment was to provide at the same time comfortable conditions for work, as well as for rest in free time. Therefore, the designers of the NONO group focused on natural materials, a large amount of wood, in various forms, warm tones and richness of textures. The interior mainly used earthy colors, including beiges, interspersed with cooler tones in the form of greens and grays. These colors were meant to refer to nature, the mountain landscape, bringing with them peace and harmony. All this played perfectly together, creating a unique space.

This is where the day begins

The first fiddle in the living area was to play the kitchen, a place ideal for culinary experiments. Leading to it, from the very entrance, is a wooden "trail" on the ceiling. It is undoubtedly the most distinctive element of the entire interior. The beautiful, expressive ceiling, finished with dark oak planks, introduces the atmosphere of a highlander, yet modern cottage. The perverse use of floor panels on another plane and going beyond the scheme gave an amazing effect.

The kitchen cabinetry was finished with original materials in monochromatic colors with distinctive textures. Heavily used sinter from the countertop goes to the wall, creating a kitchen apron. Black veneer, as a finish on the lower cabinets, and metal on the upper cabinet fronts dynamize it. The backdrop of brushed steel is an unconventional wallpaper, and two living room wall sconces provide decoration. The whole is wrapped in wood and heavily structured window decorations.

The kitchen area is separated from the living room by a wooden table, whose walnut hue contrasts beautifully against the black cabinets. In turn, the velour sofa set against the wall encourages blissful rest. Accompanying it, the NOBONOBO pouffe is an excellent support for the legs, but also a striking decoration of the space.

The road to privacy

In this interior nothing seems obvious, and the interpenetrating structures and textures of materials hide unobvious solutions. The minimalist finish of the walls in the corridor, creates a visually uniform plane, and actually masks the bathroom and bedroom doors hidden here. On the one hand is a beautiful, unfussy wallpaper reminiscent of a rich linen fabric, and on the other is a wall finished with a veneer panel.

The bathroom is a real masculine grotto - expressive, dark, with the use of richly textured tiles and an anthracite ceiling. Tiles in the shower area with a stone drawing directly refer to the mountains. The austere finish is warmed by the wood veneer of the cabinets, already familiar to us from the kitchen. A keen eye will also spot another reference to the mountain landscape. The fine "slatted" mosaic in the area with the sink is deceptively reminiscent of the shingles used to cover the roofs of mountain cottages.

Blissful sleep

In the private rooms, it has been possible to combine leisure functions with work zones in a very graceful way. Maintained in the same color scheme as the rest of the apartment, they form a cohesive whole together. The common denominator of both bedrooms is a muted bottle green. In one it appears as a wall and bed headboard, in the other it appears on the exotic wallpaper.

When designing this interior, we focused on the details, they are what tie the project together and give it a distinctive final shape. Electrical switches and sockets were also very important to us. We know that they are an indispensable part of the apartment's finish, so we make sure that they are also its decorative part. In this case, we chose Kontakt-Simon fixtures from the Simon 82 collection. The most characteristic element of this series is the unique shape of the base, which makes the product "come out of the wall" into the surrounding space, says architect Karolina Szyszka owner of NONO Group.
