Refreshed beach and swimming area in Przylasek Rusiecki in Krakow. The space has undergone a decent upgrade!

09 of July '21

Krakow, specifically Nowa Huta, has a new attractive recreational space. Modernization work on the beach and swimming area in Przylasek Rusiecki has just been completed. The project involved refreshing and modernizing the space, while preserving its semi-wild character. The area, eagerly visited by Cracovians, underwent a decent metamorphosis.

Przylasek Rusiecki is located in the eastern part of Krakow, in the Nowa Huta district. It has many advantages and so far untapped recreational potential. The semi-wild area has more than a dozen water reservoirs, including several large ones, in addition to a lot of green space and a beach. In response to visitors' interest in spending leisure time in the area of the large reservoir, the Municipality of Krakow, together with the Malopolska Region, decided to start modernizing the space, which became part of the revitalization program for the post-industrial area of Nowa Huta "Krakow - Nowa Huta of the Future." The emphasis was on modernity and preserving the semi-wild character of the area. The project was designed by the Saneccy studio of Krakow, and is being executed by Krisbud of Trzebinia.

goal: modernity and semi-wildness

The Recreation and Leisure Center "Przylasek Rusiecki" - This is the name under which the already open, modernized space operates. It offers, among other things, 26 hectares for recreation (19 of which are occupied by the reservoir itself!), several kilometers of walking paths, viewpoints, beach soccer fields, a playground, parking spaces, smart lighting and monitoring.

The area before the renovation needed, above all, to be adapted for daily visits by residents. It lacked sanitary facilities or a separate swimming area and walking paths. Now all this is there, and more.

The project also included the construction of piers for strollers, but especially for anglers, who are regularly encountered in Przylasek. It is the piers that are one of the biggest attractions, which measure a kilometer in total, and the longest is 400 meters. You can walk it from the beach to the entrance itself.

Also more attractive than before is the beach, which has been greatly expanded. Seven thousand tons of sand were needed to refresh it. The "floating" swimming pool with a raised bottom is also very popular.

The project did not lack plant motifs: the facades of two buildings, where sanitary facilities and facilities for water equipment (including boats and kayaks) are located, were used for planting vertical greenery. In turn, a tent was set up between them for outdoor events. It is also worth noting that the facility has been fully adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.

Looking at the effects of the work, it seems that the goal has been achieved: it is fresh, modern, but still green. The first days after the opening of the center in Przylasek saw a lot of visitors.

The total cost of the project was PLN 18.5 million, of which PLN 5.2 million was covered by European Funds.

More investments planned in Przylasek Rusiecki

The potential of Przylasek Rusiecki is to be further exploited. Redevelopment of the recreation area by water reservoir No. 1 is the first element of work on the Recreation and Leisure Center. A river park encompassing the remaining 13 reservoirs is to be built in subsequent stages. The plan also calls for the construction of the "Branice" educational park, which is to serve as an open-air museum. It is possible that thermal baths will also be built there, due to the presence of geothermal sources there. Investors are currently being sought. During the official opening of the center, Jacek Majchrowski also announced plans to build a train stop in Przylasek.

Currently, the Recreation and Leisure Center "Przylasek Rusiecki" can be reached by a special seasonal bus line LR2, which runs from the loop near the Czyżyński traffic circle.
