In the latest episode of the "Foundations" podcast, we learn about the experiences of Olivia Portka and Wiktoria Domagała from the Faculty of Architecture at the Silesian University of Technology. They talk about their path through their studies, the first semesters full of new challenges, competition projects and student internships that allowed them to get in touch with the real world of architecture.
learning imagination and design basics
From the first day of their studies, Olivia and Victoria encountered a new reality - learning drafting geometry, using scale, learning about design software and the first exercises to stimulate imagination. It was a time full of challenges and doubts, but also new acquaintances and inspiration among people with similar passions.
In subsequent semesters, the girls worked on technical projects - single-family housing, small services and urban design. This is when they learned to combine theory and practice, learned about construction law and technical conditions, while keeping in mind the needs of users. The pace of learning was intense, and each pass required a great deal of commitment and self-discipline.
breakthrough moment - projects with ideas
The breakthrough came with projects that allowed the girls to fully use their creativity and develop their own ideas. One of the favorite projects was Radio 648 - the Education and Exhibition Center at the Gliwice Radio Station, highlighted and published on the Architecture and Business website. With the support of the tutors and the experience they gained, Olivia and Victoria felt design freedom and confidence in creating functional and aesthetic spaces.
internships and real-world architecture
Currently, during the students' internships, they have the opportunity to come into contact with implementation projects, learning the practical side of architecture. They learn how to cooperate with investors, authorities and solve real design problems, which further develops their competence and inspires them to go further.
The girls emphasize that the most important thing in studying architecture is self-confidence, perseverance and mutual support. Even in the face of difficulties, it is worth looking for solutions, developing creativity and never stop believing in one's abilities.
