AUTHOR'S DESCRIPTION [excerpts].

The theater fits into the existing space of the end of Św. Marcin Street, enclosed by a complex of grand historical buildings, in a way that does not violate the existing aura, while emphasizing the time of construction and the function of the building.

The overriding goal in building the Musical Theater's body is to take advantage of the spatial and architectural qualities of the site - the historic Academy of Music located next door, the strongly sculpted body of the Adam Mickiewicz University complex opposite, and finally the dynamics of the urban and railroad infrastructure.

The lie of the land makes it possible to ideally form the main entrance to the building from the side of Św. Marcin Street, where the passage from the "outside" penetrates without the need to build height barriers into the interior of the building and introduces the viewer gently, through a spacious foyer to the various functions of the theater and to the auditorium of the Main Hall. By moving the body of the theater back towards the southern border of the plot, we get the opportunity to expose the western elevation of the Academy of Music and create a representative entrance space, which fits in with the traditional layout of squares based on the street axis - as in the case of the Adam Mickiewicz University, the Castle Cultural Center, the New Auditorium or the Academy of Music. The resulting wide city square has a chance to become a new meeting place, while welding together the new and old buildings of the Imperial district.

jury's opinion

The award was given for correct architectural and urban planning solutions with special attention to the entrance zone in the context of the city structure. There are doubts that the structure of the building is too classical in relation to the very broad and diverse mission of the Music Theater. Such proposals of the object in the city landscape are unconvincing.
