Piotr Sparrow - briefly on the subject

14 of November '19

In four days, FOPA - the Festival of Open Architectural Studios, an event accompanying the Open Eyes Economy Summit congress in Cracow, will start. During these meetings, participants will have the opportunity to take a look at Krakow's architectural studios and meet the designers in person. One of them will be Piotr Wróbel of the APA Czech-Duliński-Wróbelstudio, who answered our "10 questions to...".

Piotr W róbel graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology, where he worked as an assistant and assistant professor at the Institute of Architectural Design from 1993 to 2004. He gained professional experience in architectural offices in Germany, Norway and the United Kingdom. Since 1990, together with Jacek Czech and Janusz Duliński, he has been running the design office APA Czech Duliński Wróbel in Cracow. Co-author, among others, of the new headquarters of Radio Krakow and the building complex of the Krakow-BaliceInternational Airport.

1. architecture in three words...?

a. Matter.
b. Structure.
c. Meaning.

2. the three most important buildings to you...?

a. The Church of the Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Inowrocław.
b. The Acropolis - the hill as a whole, as a place and a great building.
c. The International Space Station (ISS).

3. the most important book on architecture...?

Euclid, "Elements."

4. Most inspiring city and why...?

Rome. A great building galimatias, a lot of memories of European history, apparent attempts to bring order to it all, as in the human brain.

5. architect with whom you would like to design something and why...?

John Pawson, whom I appreciate for his discipline and independence.

6. hand drawing or computer drawing?

Hand-drawing first, always. Computerized right after it.

7. mockup or 3D model?

Same as with drawing: the mock-up comes first, because a piece of matter (even if it is styrodur, plexiglass or a dry stick) has more weight and eloquence, stops light, casts a shadow....

8. modernism or postmodernism?

This is not an alternative, clearly modernism!

9. working after hours or sports?

It is possible to combine the two, because let's say laying paving stones, cleaning gutters or cutting trees is both work and a kind of sport (sometimes extreme).

10 - Architecture or business?

"Architecture is the most important.
