75 years of post-war Wroclaw - online events

11 of May '20

This year, although in a different form than planned, the 75th anniversary of the reconstruction of the capital is being celebrated (we wrote about it here and here). The 75th anniversary is also being celebrated by post-war Breslau, and the virtual celebration will last an entire month.

After the surrender of Festung Breslau on May 6, 1945, and the destruction of some 75 percent of the city's buildings as a result of the siege, post-war Breslau spent many years rising from the ruins. Today it celebrates its 75thanniversary. Although, as the Mayor of Wroclaw, Jacek Sutryk, wrote, these days were planned differently, there was supposed to be an exhibition in the Market Square, meetings, joy and reflection, transferring the events to virtual space, however, gives the opportunity to share joy and memories with others. The program of the Wroclaw celebrations is scheduled to include historical lectures, daily walks through interesting corners of the city ( online, of course) and a virtual Museum Night.

historical lectures

From May 1 to 22, from Monday to Friday, there will be onlinelectures organized by the "Memory and Future" Center. The schedule includes lectures by Kamil Borecki, who will talk about the Recovered Territories Exhibition on May 12, and Marcin Musial, devoted to the post-war architecture of the city (May 14).

You can find a detailed program and more information here.

Explore Wroclaw!

Virtual walks with city guides - an initiative of the city's Office of Promotion and Tourism - take place from Monday to Friday at 5 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 am.

More information about the online walks can be found here.

wrocław dwarves

Until May 13 you can take part in the online city game, whose main characters are Wroclaw dwarves! Every day a new episode is published, in which you can not only visit one of the corners of Wroclaw, learn interesting facts about the city and solve a contest task. You can read more about the game here.

Virtual Night of Museums

From May 15 to 17, from 8:00 pm to midnight, at every full hour, you will be able to virtually visit one of fifteen selected objects for half an hour. The National Museum will be guided by Director Piotr Oszczanowski, the Pavilion of the Four Domes by Agata Iżykowska-Uszczyk, and the secrets of the Royal Palace will be revealed by City Museum Director Maciej Lagiewski.

More information about this year's Night of Museums can be found here.

The program also includes "Film Wroclaw - 75/110," a joint project of DCF and the City Hall, aimed at popularizing the city's film history and the work of artists associated with the Lower Silesian capital, as well as many other attractions.
