Architecture Biennale 2025 in a nutshell
This unique celebration of architecture will unfold in Venice from May 10 to November 23, 2025. The 19th edition of the Biennale is curated by Italian architect and engineer Carlo Ratti. A professor at the American University MIT and the Politecnico di Milano, he titled this year's installment "Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective" ("Intelligence. Natural. Artificial. Collective "), emphasizing the word gens, meaning people, and noting that in the face of today's challenges, architecture should draw on all forms of intelligence, and reach out to all generations and disciplines - from the sciences to the arts.
The event is accompanied by the presentation of the Golden Lions, a prestigious award given since 1978. Which exhibitions will win this award is not yet known, but we do know this year's recipients recognized for lifetime achievement - theyare Donna Haraway, an American biologist and philosopher, and Italian architect Italo Rota, who died last year.

Poland will be represented this year by an interdisciplinary team selected in a competition, consisting of: Aleksandra Kędziorek (curator), Krzysztof Maniak (artist), Katarzyna Przyzwańska (artist) and Maciej Siuda (architect). Their exhibition - "Lars and penates - about building a sense of security in architecture" - draws on the tradition of treating architecture as a shelter from various dangers. The team, reaching for technical solutions such as fire extinguishers or cameras and practices rooted in tradition, such as the panicle hung at the end of construction, wonders whether architecture today has the right tools to build a safe reality.

Lars and penatas were deities who looked after the domestic hearth in ancient Rome. The reference to them as guarantors of domestic security has been preserved in many languages, so - as the curator of the Architecture Biennale 2025 Carlo Ratti does with the word intelligens, which is the main slogan of this year's exhibition - we refer to them as a certain universal code, derived from the ancient tradition.
- explains the exhibition's co-founder Aleksandra Kędzorek.
