Gas boilers in 2025 - which models are worth betting on?

22 of April '25

What innovative features and parameters of gas boilers available in 2025 should you pay attention to in order to ensure a cost-effective, efficient and future-proof heat source?

In 2025, gas heating remains one of the most popular ways to provide heat in homes, but modern gas boilers are different from the devices of a dozen years ago. Today's boilers meet current regulatory requirements and are designed with future regulations in mind, so you can avoid the need to prematurely replace your appliance as a result of regulatory changes.

Modern gas boilers, that is, what kind of boilers?

Modern gas boilers in 2025 are devices that not only heat the home efficiently, but also help reduce bills and meet increasingly stringent environmental requirements. The most important standard at the moment are condensing boilers. Thanks to special technology, they recover heat from the water vapor in the flue gas, which in older boilers irretrievably escaped through the chimney. In effect, this means that the boiler uses less gas, and you pay less for heating.

Many of these modern boilers are able to achieve energy efficiencies of even more than 100% (based on the calorific value of the fuel), which translates into real savings and lower carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.

Equally important - more and more boilers are adapted to burn a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen (so-called H₂-ready boilers), usually in a ratio of up to 20%. Thus, by buying such a model today, you are preparing your home for a future in which hydrogen-blended fuel may appear in gas networks.

Modern gas boilers also mean smart controls. Many models have built-in automatic control systems that adjust the operation of the boiler to the quality of the gas and the current weather conditions. They can also be conveniently operated from a mobile app - change the temperature, set operating schedules and even track energy consumption.

Also gaining in popularity are the so-called hybrid systems - solutions in which a gas boiler cooperates with, for example, a heat pump. Such a duo allows you to optimize heating costs - the device itself chooses a cheaper or greener heat source depending on the weather and energy prices. This is not only convenient, but also reasonable - both economically and environmentally.

What standards must modern gas boilers meet?

Since 2015, the European Union has had stricter energy efficiency requirements (the so-called ErP Directive), which have virtually eliminated non-condensing boilers from the market. By 2025, all new gas boilers must meet high standards for seasonal energy efficiency and low emissions. Permissible levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx) are very strict - modern low NOx class devices emit less than 30 mg/kWh, which corresponds to the highest flue gas class.

In addition, European countries are pursuing climate goals by encouraging solutions that reduce CO₂ emissions. For example, some countries are banning the installation of fossil fuel boilers in new buildings after 2025, forcing the development of alternatives (heat pumps, biomethane, hydrogen). In Poland, for now, the focus is on replacing old boilers with modern condensing ones and adapting them to future gas mixtures.

How to choose a gas boiler for years to come?

For investors, the most important thing is conscious investment planning. Let's choose condensing boilers with a high energy efficiency class (minimum A) - they are now a standard and guarantee lower gas bills and greener heating. Let's check whether the boiler meets current standards and directives (e.g. ErP) and is certified for low NOx emissions.

It's a good idea to ask about models that are prepared to work with hydrogen, which means that in the future they will be able to run on less carbon-based fuel without costly modifications. In daily use, it is worth taking advantage of the available improvements: thermostats and mobile apps for remote control - this allows you to optimally use the capabilities of your new boiler and further save energy. Regular servicing (inspection at least once a year) will ensure the maintenance of high efficiency and trouble-free operation for many years.

It is also worth thinking about solutions that reduce emissions - for example, integrating a boiler with solar collectors or installing a hybrid set with a heat pump in buildings with higher demand.

Looking for a boiler? Bet on modern De Dietrich boilers

Choosing a gas boiler is an investment for years - so it's worth betting on an appliance that is modern, efficient and in line with the latest trends. The De Dietrich brand offers condensing boilers that combine user comfort, high efficiency and readiness for future challenges, such as fuel changes and stricter emission regulations.

The MCR4boiler from De Dietrich is a reliable choice for homes where both economy and convenience are important. The boiler automatically adjusts power to the needs of the building, reducing gas consumption and increasing the durability of the appliance. Thanks to its state-of-the-art control (control from an app only with optional equipment), compact dimensions and exceptionally quiet operation, the MCR4 is perfect for both new construction and retrofitting older installations.
