Competition for the design of a viewing platform with a descent to the "Dubai Beach" in Jaroslawiec

organizer: Postomino Commune, Association of Polish Architects Koszalin Branch

Postomino Municipality, in cooperation with SARP Koszalin Branch, has announced a competition for the design of a viewing platform with a descent to the "Dubai Beach" in Jaroslawiec. {More}

Postomino Municipality, in cooperation with SARP Koszalin Branch, has announced a competition for the design of a viewing platform with a descent to the "Dubai Beach" in Jaroslawiec.

purpose

The purpose of the competition, as we read in the regulations, is to obtain the best concept in terms of architectural, spatial and functional-utility aspects of the construction of a viewing platform together with an exit to the "Dubai Beach" in Jaroslawiec (Postomino municipality) and land development.
The ordering party expects a functional, resistant to the effects of hostile environment, formally distinctive, with low operating costs, user-friendly building with a modern, at the same time simple and incompatible architectural form, which can become a business card and symbol of the municipality.

terms and conditions

The competition is an implementation competition, one-stage, conducted in a limited procedure.

The area covered by the competition is a plot of land located in the northern part of Jaroslawiec, on the border of the village with the Baltic Sea. The entire investment is to include the development of a green park area located on the upper level of an active cliff and which is also the access and the beginning of the descent to the artificial "Dubai Beach". At the foot of the cliff from the descent, a promenade is planned to run along the beach in an easterly direction to the descent to the beach at Rose of Winds Square.

The main idea is the concept of creating a modern, functional, economical and user-friendly exposed, open to the seascape viewing point (viewing platform) that is at the same time an exit, located at the foot of the cliff, to the tourist attraction of Jaroslawiec, the artificial "Dubai Beach". It is assumed that the designed development should form a coherent whole of architectural and urban composition, consisting of a complex of park greenery, viewing platforms, an exit to "Dubai Beach" and a promenade at the foot of the cliff connecting the exits to the beach No. 5 and No. 4. It is planned to create an architecturally attractive place, functional, enriching the space of the municipality, with an architectural form that can become a business card and symbol of the municipality, meeting the latest standards and principles of inclusive and universal design.

The scope of the solution should include at least an architectural and urban design concept including:

  1. concept of land development in the area defined by the boundaries of the competition study, showing functional-spatial connections with adjacent areas of development and public spaces, setting standards for the arrangement and maintenance of the essential elements of land development, including, squares, roads, pedestrian routes, bicycle paths, parking spaces, small architecture, etc..;
  2. architectural concept of the new development determining the hierarchy and mutual relations of the elements of the functional-utility program of the viewing platform with the descent to the "Dubai Beach" in Jarosławiec, as well as the standards of the essential elements of the function, form and construction of the designed object(s);
  3. the idea of solutions in the field of construction, development and installation, in particular innovative, pro-ecological and energy-saving solutions, taking into account in particular:
    (a) prevention of destructive influences of unfriendly marine environment (chemical aggression of seawater, air, impact of wind power along with sand, active cliff, instability of beach levels),
    (b) use of energy from renewable sources.

The functional and spatial solutions included in the concept, as well as material and construction decisions should be characterized by appropriateness and moderation.

Results of the one-phase student architectural study and concept competition "FREE BOGDANKA"

organizer: SARP Poznań Branch, Poznań International Fair, Wielkopolska Regional Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland

During the Forum of Design and Architecture, during BUDMA 2024, we got to know the results of the student architectural study and concept competition "To free Bogdanka". The subject of the competition was to develop a concept for the development of a fragment of the area of the western green wedge in the area between Lake Rusalka and Sołacki Park in Poznań. The jury awarded three, equal first prizes, two honorable mentions (ex aequo) and an honorable mention.

purpose

The purpose of the competition is to study the possibilities of changes in the current development of the area indicated in Appendix 1 to the competition regulations and to show them in the form of a concept for the development of the area covered by the competition. It is expected that the recreational and sports character of the area will be preserved and the continuity of the ecological corridor of the Bogdanka valley will be restored. Contest participants are encouraged to take an uninhibited, creative approach to the topic in such a way as to show different ways of solving it.

The contest also aims to show the potential for creating a system of green and blue infrastructure of Poznan based on the former course of watercourses (today hidden underground).

terms and conditions

Thecompetition is open to individuals who:

  • are students of universities educated in the fields of architecture and landscape architecture,
  • have familiarized themselves with the regulations of the competition,
  • have applied for participation in the competition,
  • have delivered competition works in accordance with the requirements of the competition regulations.

Competition works can be carried out individually or in teams of up to 4 people.

The competition "Free the Bogdanka" concerns the area between Lake Rusalka and Solacki Park in Poznan. It is a fragment of the western green wedge - a part of the urban establishment developed by architect Władysław Czarnecki in cooperation with naturalist Adam Wodziczko in 1930-1934. The western green wedge runs from Kiekrz, to the foot of Poznan Citadel along the Bogdanka River valley. It includes, among others: Lake Strzeszyńskie, Strzeszyńskie ponds, Lake Rusalka, green areas of Golęcin, Sołacki Park and Adam Wodziczko Park. This is the largest complex of biologically active areas in Poznan, used for recreation and sports.

Bogdanka in the section between Rusalka and Sołacki Park has been channelized since the late 1930s. Since 1938, a swimming pool complex designed by architect Marian Spychalski existed at Niestachowska Street. In the late 1970s and early 1980s it was closed due to degradation caused by neglect. It should be mentioned that the eastern section of Bogdanka - from Pulaski Street to the mouth of the Warta River - is also channelized.

The development concept for the study area should make it possible to create an attractive, publicly accessible and multifunctional public space for recreation of residents and enhancement of biodiversity and retention capacity of the valley. The designs should respond to contemporary environmental issues and promote mitigation of climate change.

Theconcept should take into account:

  • spatial, natural, landscape and functional connections of the study area with its immediate surroundings and with the hydrographic system, greenery system and urban structure of Poznan,
  • environmental conditions (hydrographic, ground, habitat, climatic conditions),
  • traffic solutions, including indication of locations of pedestrian crossings and traffic calming elements and organization of bicycle traffic, as well as car traffic,
  • the need to create space to serve different groups of users,
  • protection of existing valuable greenery complexes,
  • theway and form of reference to the history and identity of the place, ensuring a consistent image and form of development elements of the study area (in the type of paving, lighting, small architecture, etc.),
  • the possibility of using pro-environmental solutions (small retention, increasing the biologically active area, improving the local climate, using recycled materials or sustainable manufacturing),
  • the possibility of possible staging of implementation works (the process of transformation).

The organizers of the competition expect from its participants an in-depth analysis of the programming and design studies for the area carried out so far, which are at the disposal of various organizations, organizational units of the City of Poznań, or the local universities' own resources. The aforementioned documentation can serve as a source of inspiration for competition participants in developing their own programmatic and spatial concepts for the area. Noteworthy are such studies as the social program of the housing estate councils from
2014 and the related concept by architects Andrzej Kurzawski and Jakub Gwizdała (available on the website of the Sołacz Housing Estate Council), as well as the draft of the local land use plan currently being developed by the Municipal Urban Planning Studio in Poznań.

Thecompetition work should consist of two elements:

  • one display board (idea board) in 100×70 cm format, horizontally, printed on a light backing,
  • electronic recording of the display board (idea board) in 300 dpi resolution, the file size must not exceed 20 MB,
  • presentation consisting of a maximum of ten slides, saved in vector graphics format in PDF extension as a single multi-page file, file size must not exceed 20 MB.

A detailed method of developing the board and presentation is available in the regulations.

All inquiries should be directed to poznan@sarp.p

calendar

  • application for participation in the competition: until November 17, 2023,
  • deadline for receipt of questions: until December 8, 2023,
  • deadline for submission of works: until January 19, 2024,

Results of the competition for the housing estate of multi-family buildings on Sarni Stok Street in Bielsko-Biała

organizer: SARP Bielsko-Biała Branch | investor: Bielsko-Biala Social Housing Association

SARP Branch Bielsko-Biala, together with the Bielsko-Biala Social Housing Association, announced the results of a competition to design a sustainable multi-family housing estate on Sarni Stok Street. First Prize went to archistudio studniarek + pilinkiewicz studio. {More}

purpose

The purpose of the competition is to obtain, the best in terms of architectural, spatial and functional-utility concept of urban-architectural development of the area of a multi-family sustainable housing estate in Sarni Stok Street in Bielsko-Biała.

Meeting the requirements of sustainable architecture means that the development should be attractive in form, comfortable in use, economically accessible and conducive to the environment. The estate is to be a low-energy residential complex, characterized by extensive use of pro-environmental and pro-social solutions.

terms and conditions

The competition is a limited, one-stage, implementation competition and has been assigned SARP No. 1045.

The subject of the competition is to develop an urban-architectural concept for the development of the area of the multi-family sustainable housing complex at Sarni Stok Street in Bielsko-Biała covered by the competition study in accordance with the boundaries marked in Appendix No. 8a to the regulations.

The designed residential complex should be distinguished by the high quality of common spaces, which is expected to foster the creation of neighborhood ties and provide a sense of comfort and security for residents of all ages.

The contracting authority expects competition participants to present an architectural and urban design concept that is the best in terms of functionality, use and composition in the material, aesthetic, cultural, social and ecological sense, taking into account the qualities of the existing tree stock.

An important issue is the cost of implementation of the investment - the ordering party expects buildings that are attractive in architectural form. The estimated planned total cost of investment implementation in developer condition for three repetitive residential buildings will amount to PLN 45 million gross.

The ordering party assumes repetitive buildings (estimated 3-4 buildings).

Thearchitectural and urban planning concept of the estate should be developed in a way that allows 3-stage implementation of the investment, with the possibility of obtaining an occupancy permit for each stage.

The planned multi-family housing estate will be located in Bielsko-Biała, at Sarni Stok Street, Stare Bielsko precinct. The plot on which it will be built (plot no. 180/129) has an area of 22,513 square meters. The area is covered by the provisions of the Local Spatial Development Plan.

As part of the project, the ordering party assumes the construction of about 170-200 apartments, with a total usable area of apartments of about 9,000 square meters.

Theusable area of the apartments should be distributed as follows:

  • one-room apartments - 10%, area of 30-40 sq. m,
  • two-room apartments - 40%, area 40-55 sq. m,
  • three-room apartments - 45%, area 50-70 sqm,
  • 4-room apartments - 5%, area 60-80 sqm.

Of the 2- and 3-room apartments, there should be a range of ~10% of the apartments adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.

Necessary parking spaces should be designed in the area in the number of 1.5 parking spaces per apartment. It is allowed to design single-car garages in the body of the building. It is allowed as a last resort, as it is the least economical, to locate parking spaces in underground garages in buildings.

One commercial unit with a floor area of up to 70 sqm (store) should be provided. In addition, a community center for children with an area of about 130 sqm and a club for the elderly with an area of about 200 sqm should be designed in the first floor of one of the buildings.
The common rooms are to serve intergenerational integration. The premises of the day-care center and the club should be designed in such a way that in case the investor does not obtain funds for the construction of these premises it will be possible to create residential units in this place.

The architectural and urban design concept of the multi-family housing development should be in line with the idea and criteria of a "green building" and meet the requirements of the "Green House" certification process.

A detailed description of the project can be found in Appendix 6 to the regulations.

Pre-registration is a prerequisite for submitting a competition entry—students must register with their name, email address, university name and country. Then they can form a team, add a research supervisor (who also has a chance to receive a prize) and start working on the project.
The organizers encourage interdisciplinary teams, consisting of engineers, designers, architects and landscape architects. Each student or student team must have the support and approval of a teacher from their university.
Registration takes place at daylightandarchitecture.com/iva/ and runs until April 1, 2024. The second stage of the competition is to submit the work between April 15 and May 30, 2024.
Students—individually or in teams—can work on projects in two categories:
  • "Natural light in buildings".—projects that depict the applicable conditions for providing daylight and sunlight to buildings—including the impact of building construction and site context, orientation, shape and dimensions, window openings, screens, shadows, interior divisions, materials and exterior conditions. The ways in which daylight is directed and reflected in an urban context are also analyzed. The organizers place special emphasis on architecture for health and well-being and projects that address challenges facing cities, communities and where daylight and architecture can help create change through better and healthier living environments; for example, through retrofitting and repurposing existing building stock.
  • "Natural light research"—projects dealing with the physical properties of light, the fundamentals of optics and materials, as well as technological development, new materials, storage or transportation of daylight. Proposing the use of daylight in public spaces for functional, recreational, cultural or spiritual purposes, and studying the effects of daylight on state of mind, health and well-being.

Each student or team should have a research supervisor.

awards

In the summer of 2024, a jury will select winners in both categories in each of five regions determined by the International Union of Architects: Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, the Americas, Asia and Oceania, and Africa.
The ten finalists will present their projects in person to the jury in the winter of 2024. At that time, the jury will select one grand prize winner in each of the competition categories.

purpose

The purpose of the competition, as we read in the regulations, is to select the best concept of a cultural-didactic-scientific building for the I.J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznan, together with a theater-stage hall for about 400 spectators and land development, taking into account the architectural, spatial and functional-utility criteria specified in the regulations.

terms and conditions

The competition is a two-stage, implementation competition, conducted under a restricted procedure.

On the plot which is the subject of the competition (at 22 Grunwaldzka Street in Poznań) there is the building of the former Olimpia cinema. The realization of the new building is intended to provide students of stage music, theater and opera with contact with a real theater stage and a live audience already in the course of the didactic process.

The new building will combine the function of a stage for theater and stage music (with an auditorium for about 400 seats), the headquarters for the only studies in this part of Europe in the specialty of artistic violin-making, as well as the headquarters of the Laboratory of New Musical Practices and the Vocal Institute. The building is also planned to include a conference room, film music studios, catering functions, an archive, administrative premises and an underground parking lot with a minimum of 100 parking spaces.

The building should meet modern requirements for cultural and teaching and research functions in the field of music, provide the highest acoustic standards. It is permissible both to design a compact volume and to dismember the body. The concept should take into account the context of the surroundings and complement the historical development quarter as much as possible in terms of urban planning. Multimedia are to be supporting elements of the exhibition, not dominant ones. The exhibition will have a popular-scientific character and should show the prehistory of the region in such a way that the viewer acquires the necessary information. Due to the enormous amount of material and subject matter, the rich archaeological heritage and the oldest history of Upper Silesia will necessarily be presented synthetically.

Thepermanent ethnographic exhibition should present annual customs according to the seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter), into which economic and professional activities and the cycles of human life (birth, childhood, marriage, old age, death) will be woven. The idea is that it can be visited in its entirety or according to one of three thematic paths:

    • annual rituals,
    • cycles of human life and family rituals,
    • work and leisure.

The exhibition will cover the area of Upper Silesia, from the late 19th century to the 1970s, both agricultural, pastoral and industrial.

The works selected in the competition, in part or in whole, will become the basis for the development of design documentation, enabling the realization of the permanent exhibitions in question at the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom.

The permanent exhibitions will be realized in one building, on two separate floors. Detailed assumptions for the exhibition halls can be found in Appendices 4, 5 and 6.

The assumed cost of the work in terms of implementation for each of the permanent exhibitions that are the subject of the competition, based on the winning competition work, cannot exceed PLN 1,860,000.00 net.

The condition for participation in the competition is:

    • that the participant has experience in the form of completing, within the last 5 years prior to the deadline for submission of the competition works, at least two services involving the development of a design for the visual arrangement of museum exhibitions with an area of at least 300m2 each, completed by the ordering party,
    • possession by the participant of architectural design authorization without limitations, together with registration in the appropriate Chamber of Architects.
    • In the case of participants taking part in the competition jointly, the condition must be met by each participant separately.

    calendar

    • application for participation in the study visit: by October 25, 2023, 3:00 pm,
    • study visit: October 26, 2023,

    • deadline for submission of works: until November 30, 2023, by 3:00 pm,
