Elegant interior in Mokotow designed by WZ STUDIO

20 of July '20

In this 100-square-meter apartment in Warsaw's Mokotów district, every detail has been refined - from the floor, to the leaf-shaped kitchen handles, to the very top of the built-in cabinets. A recurring motif in the interior is the color of bottle green - it can be found on the chairs, on the bathroom wall and on the wall panels in the bedroom.

Architects from WZ STUDIO created an interior for a family of three. Elegant restraint prevails here for the most part, broken by small accents - a console from the postwar period, a night lamp in the shape of a bird and a patterned wallpaper in one of the bathrooms. The whole creates a cohesive, albeit eclectic space.

Basia Hyjek: What was the main inspiration for the project?
Malgorzata Liebhart: The interior was meant to be eclectic and timeless. Here you will find elements of English style, modern style and inspiration from the 1950s. We wanted it to be interesting and at times bold, despite the reference to the classic style and the desire to achieve an impression of timelessness. It is impossible to identify one particular inspiration here, as there were many.

Basia:Where did the idea for such a selection of colors and materials come from?
Malgorzata: The materials were chosen to be consistent with the whole concept. The natural oak classic floor laid in a herringbone pattern complements and emphasizes the style from the yesteryears. 50's. Stone, from which the kitchen countertop, among others, was made, is a timeless material. The same is true in the bathrooms - there are imitations of marble, which will look good for many years. The console, over which the TV was placed, is a self-made converted chest of drawers from the 1970s. The varnish was removed, hence the veneer has a matte texture. As for the colors used, dark bottle green was one of the design guidelines - it just had to appear! Hence the green chairs and the green elements in the bedroom. This kind of color goes well with gold, so in the interior you can find various gold accessories - lamps, handles, etc.

Basia: Where did you get such an idea for dividing the space?
Malgorzata: The division of space always results from the needs of the investor - here it was the needs of a 2+1 family. There had to be a living room with a kitchen, with a large table and a seating area. The design assumption was also to create two bathrooms - one with a bathtub, the other with a shower. There were to be two bedrooms - for the parents and for the child, and a study. The owners of the apartment wanted there to be plenty of storage space in the interior, hence there were several spacious closets.
