We know the finalists for the 2022 Mies van der Rohe Award

The finalists for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2022, one of the most prestigious awards in the world of architecture, were announced on February 16, 2022.

For years, the Mies van der Rohe Foundation has been awarding the prize to contemporary realizations, recognizing the best building practices, timeless values and ideas relevant to 21st century architecture. Twenty-five realizations from Poland were nominated for the competition, two of which were included in the so-called short list, which we wrote about on our portal. The shortlist included the Great Synagogue Memorial Park of the NArchitekTURA studio in Oświęcim and the Local Activity Center in Rybnik of the MWArchitekci studio .

A conference was held at the ZODIAK Warsaw Architecture Pavilion, during which the five winners of the competition were presented. The winners were announced by Ivan Blasi, coordinator of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture EU Mies Award, Witold Naturski, head of the European Commission Representation in Poland, Marlena Happach - Architect of the City of Warsaw, Director of the Office of Architecture and Spatial Planning, and Marta Sękulska-Wronska- President of the Warsaw Branch of the Association of Polish Architects.

Finalists for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2022

Among the finalists were:

  • 85 Social Housing Units by studio peris+total.arquitectes in Cornlia de Llobregat.
  • Frizz23 project by Deadline studio (Britta Jürgens and Matthew Griffin) in Berlin.
  • Railway Farm by studio Gand Huilt and Melanie Drevet Paysagiste in Paris.
  • Town House by Grafton Architects in London.
  • Z33 Gouse for Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture by Francesca Torzo in Hasselt.

It was also decided to honor two projects by promising studios that were counted among the finalists:

  • Enrico Fermi School by BRD bureau project in Turin.
  • La Borda Cooperative Housing project by Lacol in Barcelona.

The winner of the Mies van der Rohe Award 2022 will be announced in April this year.
