Robert Skitek - briefly on the subject

19 of December '19

"10 Questions to..." is a series of short interviews with architects and female architects, to whom we address the same pool of questions. For today's mini-interview we invited Robert Skitek, founder of RS+ studio.

Robert Skitek is a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the Silesian University of Technology. Since 2001 he has been running his own design studio RS+ in Tychy, which has been awarded, among other things, for its designs for a water playground in Jaworzno and the development of the eastern waterfront of Paprocany in Tychy.

1 Architecture in three words...?

A framework for living.

2. The three most important buildings for you...?

Of those I have experienced:
a. Church of the Holy Spirit in Tychy Niemczyk - for getting me interested in architecture.
b. Borromini's Church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane in Rome, actually its interior - for the emotions it evoked in me.
c. Nouvel's Cartier Foundation building in Paris - for pointing out the multilevel nature of modern architecture.

3. the most important book on architecture...?

"S,M,L,XL" - for its creative mess of form and meaningful content.

4. most inspiring city and why...?

Of those I have experienced, and I have way too much backlog, especially outside of Europe:
Paris for its urbanity, Rome for its spaces, Lisbon for its tranquility, although I also love Tychy - so much to do here....

5. architect with whom you would like to design something and why...?

The biggest ones probably have big egos and probably wouldn't particularly want to design something with me....
But if, however, it would be: Ban, Souto de Moura or Zumthor - they seem OK....

6. hand drawing or computer drawing?

Both, they complement each other quite well.

7. mockup or 3D model?

I love mockups... watch.

8. modernism or postmodernism?

It's like asking "Gothic or Renaissance, or maybe Baroque"? The future, of course.

9. working after hours or sports?

Of what's left after my working hours, family is best. Although I still manage to break out for basketball or volleyball.

10. architecture or business?

It would be good if the latter follows from the former.

On our portal you will also find a conversation between Małgorzata Tomczak and Robert Skitek about the promenade and water playground on Lake Paprocany in Tychy. We encourage you to read it!
