SunRoof supports the construction of a home for teenage moms with the Foundation po DRUGIE and the UNAWEZA Foundation

28 of November '23

Construction has begun on a unique home for independent mothers, which is being built as a result of an initiative by the po DRUGIE Foundation and under the auspices of Martyna Wojciechowska's UNAWEZA Foundation. Young mothers and their children will find a safe place and a chance for a better life under the sunny roof of SunRoof, a project partner.

In Warsaw's Ursynów district, the po DRUGIE Foundation together with theUNAWEZA Foundation are building a home for teenage and independent mothers and their children. It will be a place where young mothers will receive adequate support in growing up to the most important and difficult role in life - being a mother. They will gain not only housing, but the best opportunity to learn independent living, develop and mature.

The single-family house will house six mothers with their toddlers. It will be intended for young women in the process of emancipation, i.e. former foster care alumnae, resocialization institutions or those who are in a difficult life situation for other reasons and are homeless. Here they will be able to receive assistance from psychologists, lawyers and career counselors, among others.

A house with good energy

The entire house was designed in accordance with the idea of sustainable building, based on, among other things, renewable energy sources and materials with a low carbon footprint. A collaboration between SunRoof, a pioneer in the solar energy market, and the Foundation po DRUGIE and the UNAWEZA Foundation will create a green and energy-efficient place. Thanks to innovative solar roof technology, the house will generate its own clean energy, creating a beautiful, comfortable and welcoming space for young moms and their children.

We are extremely proud to partner with SunRoof for this amazing and much-needed space. We have embedded in our DNA the need to care for a secure, independent future. We believe that through this project we can provide not only practical support, but also give young mothers the energy and inspiration to build a new life full of hope," says Martyn Szczepankowski, co-founder and Head of CEE SunRoof.

The opportunity to support the initiative is an even greater honor for SunRoof, as it shares similar values with the po DRUGIE Foundation and the UNAWEZA Foundation and its founder Martyna Wojciechowska, such as helping those in need, commitment to climate issues, and belief in the power of changing one person's life to affect the entire world.

For more than twelve years, our organization has been supporting youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. We strive to ensure that young people in Poland have separate solutions tailored to their young age. We have single mothers' homes in Poland, but we are thinking about women who have just come of age. They need special help, and we are convinced that our house will fill this important gap," says Agnieszka Sikora, president of the Foundation po DRUGIE.

The body of the building was shaped to make the most of the sun's daily migration, and the area of the solar roof (259.2 sq. m.) and its power (33.67 kWp) were matched to the number of future residents of the house. Consideration was given to the high demand for electricity that will arise when caring for tiny children and using electrical appliances. The energy generated by SunRoof will also be used to heat the facility, which will have a real impact on reducing maintenance costs.

The first young mothers, along with their little ones, will live in this remarkable home as early as next year.
