29 of April '22

May Day is under our belt, so we take you on a virtual trip to a place created to relax. Boroteka is a small wooden house in the woods, a forest cabin fashionable in recent years, which, although realized last year, was born in the minds of investors long, long ago.

peace and quiet

Overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of cities, the daily rush, the information and stimuli reaching us from all sides, we are looking for respite and rest, proximity to nature, space to recharge our batteries. Silence and tranquility.

These dreams also guided the investor who works in a corporation every day, and the finished design of a wooden chalet with large glazing by the team from POLE Architects - Baba Yaga's House- helped to realize them.

Of course, the chosen concept needed to be adapted to the needs of subsequent investors. Taking by storm the websites full of inspiration and platforms presenting in the spirit of slow life, the Bookworm Cabin had to (and, thanks to the amendment of the Building Law Act, could) be enlarged to an area ofan area of 35 square meters and, after numerous discussions and negotiations with the designers, the future owners were given permission to modify the project themselves, made possible by the investor's technical background.

color, or that "something" in the interior

The investors were helped in arranging the interior of this oasis of coziness by Jan Sekuła of the Zarysy studio, who made the colorful vision of Boroteka's owners, which had been forming for years - dreamed and waited for - a reality.

Ola Kloc
: How did the shape, a tall wooden block, influence the interior design project?

Jan Sekuła: Very positively, the bungalow itself is a very cool space. In fact, small movements were enough to build the interior. Thanks to the fact that the builders used high-quality wood for the construction, the perception of the interior is completely different from using standard construction wood. The wood was whitewashed to unify and darken its color. This allowed us to go wild with colors and solids in the interior without creating a mess.

Ola
: You opted for strong colors - black and pink - what influenced such a choice?

Jan: Light wood is a beautiful background for both black and colors, I myself love colors in the interior, also I had no doubts here. Although, from what I remember, the idea of colored stairs came from the investors. The staircase in the bungalow is the perfect element to introduce color, it is a separate piece, and the color introduces a cool distinctive element into the interior. It focuses attention and changes the character of the interior completely, adding energy and intrigue. It is that "something" that makes the interior extraordinary.

Ola
: How would you like your guests to feel in Boroteka? What treatments are supposed to help create a cozy atmosphere?

Jan: The cottage is meant to be a place to escape from the city and stress. The location of the cottage itself, its surroundings and its body are responsible for much of its aura. The interior is the dot over the "i". It's cozy, but also modern and energetic, with lots of wood and boho elements that make you feel comfortable and safe. The final truth is that we all love beautiful things, thoughtful and refined, craftsmanship that is art. The cottage is just such a thing, an escape from everyday life to a magical forest land.

Ola: What was the most difficult part of this project, and what are you most satisfied with?

Jan: I think it's one and the same thing in this case. The interior design itself was not created with the help of visualizations or technical drawings, but on the basis of conversations, ideas and sketches. As a result, the investors did not know what the result would be, but faithfully followed my suggestions. Also, the most difficult thing, both for me and the investors, was to communicate ideas and solutions in the right way and implement them. I am most satisfied with this, too, because the result of our discussions is a sensational interior. It was created thanks to great determination and meticulousness and, of course, the passion of the investors.

Ola: Thank you for the interview.
