In an era of armed crises and a warming climate, it is certain that residents of uninhabitable areas will migrate. So we need concrete housing solutions. Agnieszka Szawara of Politechnika Lubelska has created a design for mobile and modifiable houses for refugees, which allows for easy and quick assembly of buildings adapted to modern needs. The work is listed as a finalist in the "Diploma of the Year "competitionorganized by SARP Oddział Lublin.
The project creates a system of houses that can be installed in the place where migrants have arrived. The system assumes the possibility of expansion for spatial improvement or relocation to another needy place.

response to the humanitarian crisis
Taking up the above-mentioned topic of work stems from the significant challenges that are currently faced by international society in the context of migration and humanitarian crises. In today's dynamic world, in which armed conflicts, natural disasters and many other humanitarian crises cause mass migrations of people, millions of people around the world are forced to leave their homes in search of safe shelter and better living conditions. These crises have begun to directly affect Poland as well
- explains Agnieszka Szawara.
The author chose the district of Saltivka in Kharkiv and South Węglin in Lublin as the target location for the designed houses. Both selected sites are adjacent to green areas, with the condition of Kharkiv remaining unstable due to hostilities within Ukraine. The selected plot in Lublin is currently undeveloped.

The designed buildings are built from modules, which allow the combination to be tailored to the needs of the selected family. A standard 200x600 cm module is built with separate load-bearing walls, partitions, floor and roof, which are assembled together on site.
how to create mobile and easily modifiable houses?
The elements are based on wood frame construction, which is characterized by high durability and load-bearing capacity. The author also provided for the use of appropriate internal threads, which make it possible to connect the elements with screws repeatedly. The connection points of the modules are protected from the ingress of water and air with sealing tapes.

The modules, when connected, form a terraced development with gabled roofs, the irregular overhang of which allows for additional lighting of the rooms.
first and foremost shelter
The temporary nature of the designed houses resulting from their purpose dictated the method of setting the structure on screw foundations. As a result, the construction of the structure does not significantly interfere with the terrain, as it is not rooted in the ground. The author decided to finish the buildings with lightweight and durable corrugated sheet metal, which is resistant to both weather conditions and mechanical damage. In addition, the severity of this material emphasizes the simple form of the building.
