The 3rd edition of the competition "Shared space is a value" has been launched

Attention undergraduates! We invite you to participate in the competition for the best master's theses and design diplomas defended in 2019/2020. organized by the National Institute of Architecture and Urbanism.

The purpose of the competition is not only to promote the best diplomas, but also to motivate male and female students to take up the topic of common and public spaces or public facilities in their master's theses.

As every year, the awards are given in two categories: design and theoretical.

design category

In the design category, works in the fields of architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, spatial management, design, graphic design, historic preservation and related fields will be evaluated, including projects concerning public spaces: squares, streets, green spaces, recreational spaces, sports facilities, urban scale projects - urban planning projects, revitalization strategies and public buildings - including schools, hospitals, offices, cultural facilities.

theoretical category

In the theoretical category, works describing the phenomena occurring in public space, concerning public buildings, typology, history and socio-economic changes will be evaluated, i.e. works from the following fields: history of art, history of architecture, architectural theory, demographic processes, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, economics, cultural studies, protection of cultural property, environmental protection, law, management and all other and all other aspects concerning the formation and functioning of buildings and common spaces.

The jury in the theoretical category:

  • Dr. Tomasz Slawinski - deputy director of NIAiU
  • Tomasz Fudala - curator of the MNS
  • Dr. Marta Leśniakowska - IS PAN

competition calendar

  • deadline for submitting works: until September 7 this year.
  • address: works should be sent by mail or delivered in person to the NIAiU headquarters 4 Foksal St., 00-366 Warsaw.
  • award presentation: October 9 at the SARP pavilion in Warsaw

awards

  • First prize in the practical category - PLN 10,000.
  • First prize in the theoretical category - PLN 10,000
  • honorable mentions (two in each category) - PLN 5,000
