On May 25, Warsaw University authorities signed a contract with Mostostal Warszawa S.A. to carry out construction and assembly work for the construction of the Psychology Department building in Ochota. This is the second largest investment of the program spread over 2016-2025. The value of the contract is PLN 138.9 million. The new building, which will be used by students and employees of the Psychology Department, will be built within the area of Żwirki i Wigury, Banach and Pasteur streets. The first classes will be held there in the 2023/2024 academic year.

openness and restraint

For architects from Projekt Praga and Piotr Bujnowski Architekci, the starting point during the development of the concept was issues of spatial order within the UW campus in Ochota. The designers focused on strengthening the relationship with the city, connecting with the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Park and shaping the public spaces around the building and in the context of the planned University Forum. These assumptions translated into the design of a minimalist, restrained in expression edifice, combined with open public spaces.

The slogan of openness accompanies elements of the concept in various scales and meanings, as an idea that corresponds to the nature of contemporary academic education, based on dialogue, knowledge exchange, interaction and cooperation.

The openness of the building stems from its functional layout and architecture. The first floor opens up to the campus, the upper floors housing offices, halls and studios - face the internal atrium. This will be a meeting place for all users of the building - lecturers, doctoral students, students and visitors.

not only didactic rooms

The Ochota campus will feature a building with 8 floors; 6 above ground and 2 underground. Its total area will be 26,600 sqm. Inside, a total of 30 teaching rooms have been designed: lecture rooms, seminar rooms, computer rooms; rooms for quiet work; and an auditorium where lectures and meetings will be able to take place with the participation of nearly 400 people. The edifice will also house laboratories suitable for individual and group research in psychological sciences. A bicycle parking area is planned in front of the building, and an urban farming community garden on the roof.
