Can the city foster relationship building? As part of the "Urban Design: a city at your fingertips" competition, almost twenty mock-ups of small urban architecture objects were created, which will help build social integration in an accessible and modern way.
The competition was organized by the Podkarpackie Innovation Center. The prize for the authors of the two best works is a trip to the Salone del Mobile fair in Milan in April. The committee evaluated the works of 36 students from Podkarpackie universities in terms of creativity, accessibility, relevance and the project's potential to revitalize a public place.The winners were presented on March 7 at the PCI ProtoLab space: the two highest honors went to the BeeSpot project by Klaudia Wiekierak and Klaudia Lewko, and the Kreatispace project, created by Angelika Konieczny and Norbert Lis.

common space as a space for integration
Using the resources of the Podkarpackie Innovation Center, young people from our region designed accessible, modern and functional common spaces that could be built in Rzeszow in the future. It's encouraging that future architects from Podkarpacie want to create inclusive spaces, and we can make it possible for them.

In the BeeSpot project, the authors included concepts for deck chairs, modular flower pots, pergolas and hexagonal benches. The authors developed the space of green areas on the Wislok River, near Trzmielowisko, which is a frequent choice of residents for spending time in an active way. The authors were inspired by insects living in the area, and it is to the shapes of their wings that the form of the designed objects refers. In the project they took care of the accessibility of the objects and their convenience, not without importance was also the aesthetic aspect.

The Kreatispace project is dedicated to meeting and working spaces in the vicinity of Rzeszow University of Technology. One of the designed elements is a concrete block and benches, which can be rearranged and customized at will. Their canopy shape resembles an airplane propeller and refers to the logo of the Faculty of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at Rzeszow University of Technology. The facilities are a response to the needs of students, as recognized by the authors of the work, and will provide a pleasant space for working in groups, holding meetings, as well as individual work.

How do young architects want to improve the city?
Over the course of the competition, participants took part in a number of trainings and meetings, through which they gained the knowledge needed to create competition works.
Thanks to initiatives such as this one, students meet with real needs for changes in the city space, have a chance to clarify and present their ideas for arranging green areas, and propose projects for improving and establishing social relations in the city as seen from their perspective as young people
