Let's talk about architecture (and business)

Ola Kloc
01 of October '25

On October 8 in Katowice and October 11 in Bydgoszcz, we will meet with young architects who co-wrote the latest October issue of A&B: U40 - the business of the young architect.

I remember that at one time at our university there were many practitioners teaching who ran their own offices. Despite their extensive experience, they didn't want to share it, because, they said, "they won't betray the know-how of their future competition." This is one of the biggest mistakes we can make as an environment: not talking

- writes Pawel Kobierzewski (TKHolding) in his article on A&B

I regret that no one showed us how to count the value of our work and for many years we had to do it "by feel" for a rate of "no one in the market will give more"

- writes Karol Nieradka (maxberg) breaking down the wages at his studio

It's time to face the taboo topics: How to start your own architectural studio? How much should an architect/architect earn? How to price your work? How to ensure the liquidity of the studio? Should one be afraid of public procurement? Are architects/women on the verge of burnout? How to advertise? How to get clients? How to manage a team? And finally: if not architecture, then what? An attempt to answer these questions is the latest issue of A&B:

This issue is led by young Polish architects - U40, that is, today's 30- and 40-year-olds. They decided that in the pages of the monthly magazine "Architecture & Business" there must be a frank conversation about... architecture and the business of the young architect. Bluntly, loosely, they reveal their business models and ways of operating in the market. They combine passion with business acumen. Liquidity, fair contracts or the ability to count their own work are the foundations for them. They know perfectly well that in order to be able to design, one must also know how to run a business: negotiate, win orders, build a brand

- writes Małgorzata Tomczak, editor-in-chief of A&B, in the introduction to the issue.

This frank conversation goes beyond the October issue of A&B - we will continue it at two meetings:

October 8 in Katowice

On Wednesday, October 8, in the showroom of Cobu Design in Katowice, as part of the event "Nicely designed - office architecture and business development" will be held a debate "Businesses of Young Architects" moderated by Małgorzata Tomczak, editor-in-chief of A&B. Participating in the discussion will be Wojciech Fudala (Studio Wojciech Fudala), Andrzej Truszczyński and Paweł Kobierzewski (TKHolding), Karina Jędrak-Kościesza (Pracownia Projektowa Jędrak-Kościesza) and Oliwia Dec-Wolszczak (DWAA Architekci).
