Wabi-sabi beauty on 21 m² from Nadia Mitlosz Interiors studio

18 of June '20

The small studio is located in a 1970s building in Mokotow, Warsaw. It was designed with renting in mind, but if you take a good look at it - minimalists could live here longer. This is due to clever and functional solutions. Nadia Mitlosz managed to fit a lot on 21 square meters.

The architect from {tag:pracownie} was inspired by the wabi-sabi design philosophy. She discovered beauty in the imperfections of the small apartment - including in the original concrete wall full of small holes, scratches or roughness. The authenticity of the wall broke the delicate character of the interior kept in subdued colors - beige, white and gray.

In such a small space, where only one side has access to natural light, it is very difficult to separate individual zones, let alone rooms. Creating partitions would not only disrupt the spatial layout, but also the functional one. The architect came up with a different idea. Yes, the bed is separated from the kitchen by a wall made of plywood, which, however, was routed to a certain point. As a result, the room is still well-lit and does not give the impression of artificiality. Those who are thirsty for sleep can hide in the bed located on an elevation.

The staircase leading to it has become, along with the closet in the hallway, an additional storage space - the individual steps hide drawers. On top of them there is still a seat, from which you can freely use the TV hanging in the kitchen. Lined with cushions, it can serve as a mini sofa. Thus, the architect made maximum use of the apartment's space while not cluttering it.

The designer decided to choose unobtrusive interior accessories made of natural materials - ceramics, wood, glass, which complemented the impression of calmness prevailing in the apartment. In the bathroom, the floor is covered with stoneware with a black terazzo pattern, and the walls with simple white oblong tiles. The black and white decor corresponds with the arrangement of the balcony, enlivened by greenery.
