faculty history retained in objects
The exhibition features installations that realistically show what a day at the university once looked like. One installation depicts a scene from an office: a desk, a landline phone, an index, and a distinctive fern next to it. Also on display are old charts, commemorative photos, as well as old textbooks, drafting instruments and tools that have become a thing of the past: a concrete magnifying glass, a laboratory scale or an epidiascope.
I started with a pen and stylus, then came graphions, rapidographs, tracing paper. I remember being one of the first in the office to be allowed to sit at the computer
- recalls Andrzej Kasprzak, chairman of the Lublin Regional Council of the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland.
The exhibition allowed former employees and graduates of the university to revisit their memories. The Faculty of Construction at the former Higher School of Engineering in Lublin opened in 1965. At first, classes were held there exclusively in evening and extramural modes, in various locations around the city, including halls rented from schools. In its own premises, the department was located in 1975 at 40 Nadbystrzycka Street.

Before my studies, I did an internship at the construction site of the current faculty building. Rector Podkowa caught me and a colleague sleeping in a wheelbarrow in a trench while we were working
- says Jerzy Zhukovsky, a graduate and former employee of the department.
activity after 60 years
Currently, more than 1,300 people are being educated at the Department of Architecture and Construction. The classes produce innovative, interesting works, which we publish on our portal under the university's tab, such as the design of a modern, green urban complex in the vicinity of the Globus Hall by Sofia Yaremkiv in Lublin, or concepts for transforming a former sugar factory into a Cultural Innovation Center.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the department's authorities announced the direction in which they plan to develop teaching, including by expanding the laboratory. Deputy Mayor of Lublin, Tomasz Fulara, was also present at the opening of the exhibition :
60 years is a time that prompts reflection, but in your case it is also a reason to be proud. The Department, as a mature unit, has really done a lot for Lublin, the region and even the whole country. Your contribution to the development of infrastructure in Lublin and the Lublin region is enormous
- he said.
