Aleksandra Staszkiewicz of Politechnika Rzeszowska is one of the distinguished graduates of the postgraduate course in interior and exhibition architecture. Her design for the interior of a classic tenement house located on Skaleczna Street in Cracow has drawn special attention from the course leaders.
Aleksandra Staszkiewicz's project is located in a corner tenement on Skaleczna Street in Cracow, in the former Jewish quarter, or Kazimierz. It's a convenient location that allows quick access to both the center of the Old Town and the banks of the Vistula River.

modern interior behind a classic facade
Although the tenement in which the designed apartment is located is historic and surrounded by traditional church and residential buildings, the author decided on a modern style. However, the warm, muted colors, abundance of wooden finishes and subtle decorations make this apartment blend smoothly into the urban fabric, while responding to the contemporary needs of potential residents.
In the lobby, we are greeted by a hanging oak console, thanks to which the small space by the front door does not seem overwhelmed. Mirrors with edgy, organic shapes and pendant lamps that are simple in their form also help to achieve this effect.

We move smoothly from the hall to the kitchen kept in darker colors, emphasizing the essence of this space in the apartment. The refrigerator was built into the custom-made kitchen furniture. Hanging above the stone countertops, the cabinets occupy a corner and are illuminated from underneath with LED lights. The kitchen island, which is the main dining area, grows out of them. It is finished in the same oak wood as the parallel hanging cabinets. The kitchen apron above the countertops is made of stoneware tiles, imitating marble, which enhance the visual contrast with the dark furniture.

The kitchen is connected to the living room, where current interior trends can be seen: one of the walls is covered with black laths, and a long floor lamp leans over a white sofa with a distinctive texture. The RTV cabinet standing opposite is both geometrically simple and stable, and at the same time does not overwhelm the small living room area thanks to its raised design on legs.
softly, but with class
The apartment has one single or double bedroom with a bed with a soft velour headrest. On either side of it are again stable and at the same time not overwhelming bedside tables. The bedroom is also designed with an oak closet made to measure, accurately filling an alcove in the room.

The bathroom with its finish refers to the kitchen. In it, too, there are tiles imitating marble. A simple white washbasin contrasts with the minimally outlined black frame of the shower stall, and the whole is complemented by subtle metallic accessories. The bathroom also did not lack space for a washing machine.

Scrolling in successive rooms, ceramic accessories and chrome finishes blend with the warm shade of oak wood. Ultimately, the interior of the apartment on Skaleczna Street becomes an elegant yet cozy place. Another project for an apartment in the same building was also proposed by Mariola Sobolewska, whose project was also awarded by Rzeszow University of Technology.
