Architectural and urban design competition for the development of an architectural concept together with land development for the investment concerning the reconstruction of the Saxon Palace, the Brühl Palace and the tenements on Królewska Street in Warsaw

organizer: Saski Palace

A two-stage architectural and urban design competition for the reconstruction of the Saxon Palace, Brühl Palace and townhouses on Królewska Street in Warsaw has been launched. The First Prize amounts to 300 thousand zlotys gross, and the deadline for entry is April 28 this year.

purpose

The purpose of the competition is to obtain the best architectural, spatial and functional-utility concept for the buildings of the Saxon Palace, Brühl Palace and the townhouses on Królewska Street in Warsaw, together with the development of the land, in the area necessary for the implementation of the investment.

terms and conditions

SARP Competition No. 1040 is conducted in a limited and two-stage competition procedure and is an implementation competition. Competition details and guidelines are available on the organizer's website.

The requirements of the competition are stipulated by the Act of August 11, 2021 on the preparation and implementation of investments in the restoration of the Saxon Palace, the Brühl Palace and the townhouses on Królewska Street in Warsaw. According to the document, the buildings are to be reconstructed according to the external architectural shape they had on the eve of the outbreak of World War II, i.e. August 31, 1939. A thorough study of historical sources, especially surviving plans, photographs and sketches, is therefore essential.

The law is enacted to "commemorate the 100th anniversary of the rebirth of the independent Republic of Poland, in order to restore the historical shape of the representative space of Marshal Jozef Pilsudski Square inWarsaw destroyed during World War II, to redress the will of the Polish people and strengthen the unity of the civic community, the symbol of which will be the rebuilt Saxon and Brühl palaces along with a complex of townhouses on Królewska Street. Królewska, as well as to complete the work of rebuilding the capital, destroyed and demolished by the German occupiers, so that those edifices andbuildings, which a century ago proudly expressed the sovereignty of the Polish state, serve the Poles both today and in future generations and are a visible sign of the continuity of our history, as well as a testimony of a strong and modern Republic." The reconstructed buildings must meet the requirements of the law.

The law specifies that the reconstruction of the Saxon Palace, the Brühl Palace and the tenement houses at ul. Królewska 6, 8 and 10/12 in Warsaw (according to historical addresses) is to be carried out according to the external architectural shape these objects had on August 31, 1939; the scope of the investment also includes construction or reconstruction of utilities, construction of underground parking lots, construction or reconstruction of public roads, construction of internal roads and pedestrian routes, and construction of other installations, equipment and facilities necessary for:

  • reconstruction and operation of the Saxon Palace, Brühl Palace and the above-mentioned tenements,
  • securing the investment site from destruction or damage,
  • ensure order on the investment site.

The law indicates that the objects created as a result of the investment will be used for the needs of the Chancellery of the Senate of the Republic of Poland and the Mazovian Voivodship Office in Warsaw, as well as for the needs of entities conducting cultural, educational or socially useful activities with the purpose of guiding these activities.

"Marshall Jozef Pilsudski Square, once the vibrant center of the city, will once again become an important point on the cultural map of Warsaw, a popular meeting place for its residents, and for tourists a must-see in the program of visiting the Polish capital. The part of the facilities dedicated to cultural activities will consist of a variety of solutions with a wide range of future visitors' needs in mind. Among those planned are exhibition space for permanent exhibitions, spaces for temporary exhibitions, a multifunctional hall for, among other things, chamber concerts and ceremonies, a complex of conference, congress, educational and workshop rooms, a children's zone, a retail area, a cultural information point, and a food and beverage complex that will be open to the Saski Garden, if possible."

It is preferred that the programmatic needs of the Chancellery of the Polish Senate be realized in the Brühl Palace, while the functional-utility needs of entities conducting cultural, educational or socially useful activities are preferred to be realized in the Saxon Palace.

The relics of the development of the western frontage of Pilsudski Square, entered in the register of monuments with the Decision of the Mazovian Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments No. 626/2007 dated May 17, 2007, under the number A-741, cannot be removed. The preserved relics of buildings included in the register of monuments and included in the outline of the rebuilt buildings should be exposed to the public.

The existing Tomb of the Unknown Soldier must be clearly distinguished from the reconstructed part. Any interference with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is unacceptable (this also applies to the preserved underground part).

The internal structure of the rebuilt buildings must correspond to the divisions and tectonics of the facade and the layout of window and door openings. It is unacceptable to introduce elements of the internal structure of objects (vertical and horizontal partitions, stairs, equipment, etc.) into the light of window and door openings and gate passages occurring on the facades of reconstructed buildings.

With regard to the facades and roofs of the rebuilt buildings, the competition work should maintain the utmost fidelity to the original, after careful study of the sources, in particular the surviving plans, designs, photographs and sketches. It should be accepted, as far as possible, to use the same materials and methods of construction of the facades of buildings and the incorporation into them of the preserved original elements, if this does not violate generally applicable laws.

In particular, it is not allowed to introduce visible installation elements and equipment on the facades and roofs of buildings.

The competition materials, which will be made available to the contest participants qualified for the first stage, will include a drawing showing an approximate historical outline of the rebuilt buildings, along with their characteristic heights. In the competition entries, the authors will have to use the above-mentioned geometry of these buildings.

Thegarden next to Beck's pavilion should be reconstructed as it was in August 1939, along with the fence, and connected by transportation to theSaxon Garden, allowing free access from the park space.

The law indicates that "with the investment taken into account, the urban layout of the square of Marshal Józef Piłsudski, together with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the monument to Józef Piłsudski, the Papal Cross, the Monument to the Victims of the Smolensk Tragedy of 2010 and the monument to Lech Kaczyński are inviolable." In addition to the restoration of the historic fence of the Brühl Palace, the design of fences on the side of Pilsudski Square and fences on the side of the Saxon Garden are not allowed, except for the fence of part of the restored Beck Garden.

Except for the reconstructed buildings and the restoration of Beck's garden, the current layout and development of the Saxon Garden should be respected.

Due to the historical outline of the Malhommea tenement house (Krolewska 6), a narrowing of the section of Krolewska Street is allowed. It is permissible to solve the traffic service of the reconstructed buildings in terms of access to underground parking lots and delivery zones, located on the underground floor with an entrance from ul. Wierzbowa, within one of the existing two lanes, and exit in Królewska Street (exit towards Marszałkowska Street), also within one lane, in the form of ramps. The above-mentioned entrance and exit ramps may be located outside the contour of the development's demarcation line. Other solutions of traffic service, differing from the solution presented above, are also allowed.

Detailed competition guidelines and other information appendices constituting the basis for the competition concepts, i.e. appendices No. 7 to 30, will be made available to the participants of the competition who will be qualified for the first stage.

Theestimated total cost of the investment in finished condition and land development will not exceed the amount of PLN 1,544,064,900.00 gross.

Criteria for evaluation of study studies:

  • attractiveness and originality of the proposed architectural solutions and reproduction of the historical form of the buildings, reproduction of the external historical shape,
  • quality of the proposed spatial and functional solutions of the buildings,
  • the solution of the relationship of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with the reconstructed objects, with particular attention to the colonnade of the Saxon Palace,

organizer: Faculty of Architecture, Warsaw University of Technology | investor: WSC

The Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology has announced the first edition of a nationwide competition for the best pro-environmental diploma project defended in 2022. The competition's partners are: SARP Warsaw Branch and the Sustainable Architecture Circle. {More}

purpose

The Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology has announced the first edition of a nationwide competition for the best pro-environmental diploma project. The competition's partners are: SARP Warsaw Branch and the Sustainable Architecture Circle.

"Air and water pollution, increasing waste, limited resources and progressive climate change—awareness of these phenomena, which are largely a consequence of the way we shape our built environment, should determine the work of architects today. Shaping sustainable and climate-responsible architecture is a relatively new issue, introduced relatively recently into the already complex architectural and urban design process. At the same time, environmentally and climatically responsible architecture can be represented by a wide variety of realizations of a very different nature. The search for the best solutions is still going on and is also taking very interesting forms in the graduation theses of architecture students across the country. This type of design activity is particularly important—today's diploma students are, after all, the designers of tomorrow."—reads the competition website.

The goals of the competition are:

  • to identify and reward the best diploma theses defended in the past (2022) year at architecture faculties in Poland,
  • to promote and emphasize the importance of responsible design of the built environment in the context of adverse climate change and resource conservation while maintaining high architectural and urban design qualities of the proposed solutions,
  • To promote building materials and technologies with a low carbon footprint and energy-efficient construction,
  • dissemination of the principles of implementation of circular economy in architecture,
  • seeking innovative design solutions that realize the goals of responsible shaping of the built environment,
  • promotion of pro-environmental design ideas.

terms and conditions

The competition is intended for graduates of Polish universities on courses preparing for the profession of architecture, who have defended their diploma theses in 2022.

Thecompetition is held in two categories—engineering theses and master's theses.

"The dream and ambition of the organizers is to draw attention to and emphasize the importance of responsible design of the built environment in the context of the climate crisis and resource conservation while maintaining the highest architectural and urban design qualities of the proposed solutions among both male and female students, academic staff and the entire community of Polish architects."—reads further on the competition website.

The condition for participation in the competition is to provide via e-mail to dyplom.eko.arch@pw.edu.pl the application documents, which are:

Concrete Architecture 2023 student workshop

organizer: Faculty of Architecture, Cracow University of Technology, AGH, Association of Cement Manufacturers

The call for applications for the next edition of the Concrete Architecture student workshop is launched! This biennial event is designed for architecture students who want to gain knowledge and skills in designing with concrete. {More}

purpose

The workshop is organized by the Association of Cement Manufacturers, the Department of Architectural Design WA PK, the Department of Building Materials Technology WIMiC AGH in cooperation: PERI Poland, Górażdże Cement/Górażdże Concrete.

The recruitment for the next edition of the student workshop Concrete Architecture is launched! This biennial event is designed for architecture students who want to gain knowledge and skills in designing with concrete. Over the course of five days, they will have the opportunity to learn the secrets of designing with concrete, as well as learn about its practical application. This year's workshop slogan is King Minos' Throne.

"Thrones are often associated with splendor and gold. However, as we can sometimes see, there have been modest thrones, well, perhaps in this shape they have survived to our time. The myth of the Minotaur, who was locked in a labyrinth by King Minos, some say, is not a fairy tale. And as is usual in building, it could not do without an architect. Here we are talking about Daedalus the father of the unruly Icarus [...]. And it is in the middle of this labyrinth, in the subterranean corridors and dark dungeons of King Minos' palace, at Knossos in Crete, that one of the most unusual and mysterious concrete elements of antiquity is located - King Minos' throne [...]. The throne is in the form of an armchair, 1.6 meters high and 50 cm deep and wide. It is considered one of the first concrete elements used in construction. It was made of steel-reinforced concrete, which gave it exceptional durability and resistance to mechanical damage. During archaeological excavations, it was discovered that the throne had been repaired and repaired several times, indicating that it was a very important element in the palace. Interestingly, during the research it was discovered that there were indentations on the seat, indicating that it was used not only by the king himself, but also by other important dignitaries. King Minos' concrete throne remains to this day one of the most enigmatic pieces of antiquity. Its unique construction and workmanship using a then very modern material, as well as its long history and use, arouse awe and fascination among archaeologists and tourists alike from all over the world," - say the workshop organizers.

terms and conditions

The workshop is intended for thirty people - male and female students, Faculty of Architecture and Art from universities from all over Poland.

Participants will be asked to send permission from the dean (vice dean) of their home faculty to take part in the workshop, as well as a pdf of the best project they have done at their home Faculty of Architecture. A ranking list will be announced from among those submitted.

Classes will include:

  • theoretical lectures,
  • project tasks (teams of 5 people),
  • supervision of projects - consultations
  • execution of projects - forms, formwork, reinforcement, placement of concrete (assistance of qualified construction workers, reinforcers, carpenters).

Participants will be divided into five (five-person) groups. The proposed projects should be presented first on a single board of 50 by 70 cm, vertically with the help of axonometric drawings, clearly explaining the concept. The scale of the development is arbitrary, appropriate to the concept. Development without the use of a computer by any technique, permanent, on any type of board, allowing later reproduction.

The final stage of the creation of the throne is its independent construction. Each team to carry out the project will have at its disposal concrete with a volume of no more than 0.5m3 (note that it is assumed that a cubic of concrete weighs 2300 kg), the concrete can be reinforced. Castings will be made in individual formwork designed and assembled by the workshop participants, the size will be about 50×50×160 cm.

The workshop will also present the latest trends in concrete architecture and the challenges of working with this material. The presenters will include architects who will share their knowledge and experience, as well as practitioners from companies related to the concrete industry. They will conduct practical exercises, so that participants will have the opportunity to put the knowledge they have gained into practice.

Each participant will receive a certificate of completion of the workshop and access to training materials. The Concrete Days 2023 in Wisla will also feature an exhibition of works that were created during the workshop.

The organizers will cover the cost of accommodation and food for participants.

Any questions about the workshop and documents should be emailed to: architekturabetonowa@pk.edu.pl

The 25th edition of the Geberit competition. "Bathroom Design 2023".

organizer: Geberit

The anniversary edition of the "Bathroom Design 2023" competition is underway. This time the challenge is to design a mobile public toilet, which will stand in the garden of the Zamoyski Palace in Warsaw. The partner of the 25th edition of the competition is the Association of Polish Architects SARP. {More}

purpose

The purpose of the competition is to select the best design for a mobile public toilet in the privacy of the Zamoyski Palace garden in Warsaw.

This year's partner is the Association of Polish Architects SARP.

For almost 25 years, Geberit has been organizing a competition for young architects and architects, male and female students - the "Bathroom Project" - aimed at drawing attention to the problem of the shortage of public toilets in Polish cities. This year the organizer, Geberit, is holding the competition under the Geberit brand, due to the strategic changes that the Kolo brand is undergoing in 2023.

The subject of the competition is the conceptual design of a mobile public toilet in the garden of the Association of Polish Architects SARP, which has its headquarters in the historic Zamoyski Palace on Foksal Street in Warsaw. The design of the mobile toilet will provide a universal solution for public toilets implemented in valuable natural and landscape areas of parks, sports and recreation or/and in the vicinity of buildings of high architectural value, including areas and buildings under conservation protection.

terms and conditions

The competition is open, participation is open to architecture students and young architects, individually or in teams.

The competition task is to design a mobile public toilet and present the development of the garden area at the Zamoyski Palace. The landscaping should include the proposed location of the designed toilet - the connections with existing facilities and landscaping should be taken into account and designed, keeping in mind communication constraints.

The exhibition and conference pavilion and the garden on the side of Aleja Na Skarpie are places within the entire complex where events for large numbers of participants can be held. The floor of the pavilion is placed at the level of the surrounding area. From the pavilion, without overcoming differences in ground level, it is possible to access the garden both from the east side - to the main part of the garden from the side of Aleja Na Skarpie, and from the west side - to the part of the garden at the back of the pavilion and the northern outbuilding of the palace. As a result, the exhibition and conference pavilion is accessible to people with reduced mobility. However, access to and from the pavilion is difficult. Problems are created primarily by the type of pavement on the accesses. Another major problem is the inability to reach the restrooms without climbing stairs along the way. The task of the competition is to solve the problems and make the events held in the garden and the exhibition and conference pavilion accessible to people with special needs, including those with limited mobility.

Participants and contestants are left to decide on the specific location of the mobile toilet in the garden. It is also allowed to locate in a part of the site other than the garden. The choice of location will be evaluated together with other design elements. Recommendations made by the jury may determine the need to change the location at a later stage of the design work.

The mobile toilet, which is the subject of the competition task, is intended to be a better quality alternative to the commonly used mobile toilets. Both for the most commonly used mobile chemical toilets made of plastic and for container toilets. The better quality is to refer to both quality of use and aesthetics.

The portable toilet is to be adapted for location in valuable natural and scenic areas of parks, sports and recreation, and/or in the vicinity of buildings of high architectural value, including conservation areas and buildings. The location next to the Zamoyski Palace in Warsaw, which is the headquarters of the Association of Polish Architects SARP, and the accompanying exhibition and conference pavilion should be treated as exemplary.

Thepossibility of producing, based on the concept presented in the competition, a larger number of mobile toilets should be taken into account.

When designing, the principles of universal design should be applied.

In order to ensure the transportability of the toilet, it should not be permanently tied to the ground and must be adapted to transportation by dividing it into transportable modules, as well as using solutions to facilitate its transportation. The external dimensions of the individual modules of the mobile toilet provided for transport should not be larger than those of typical sanitary and office containers, which are 6058 mm long, 2438 mm wide, 2800 mm high, respectively.

The mobile toilet is to be adapted both to the possibility of connecting it to the sewage system and to function in places where sewage systems do not exist. Therefore, waste water tanks are to be provided.

It is left to the decision of the authors and authors of the competition works whether the assembled toilet is to be a single unit or consist of several separate bodies. The issue of water and sewage connections, water and sewage tanks and the space needed for rainwater and gray water treatment and black water (dirty/fecal contamination) treatment should be taken into account. Participants are encouraged to seek various solutions in this regard - including the design of elements, having the character not of volumes, but of landscaping or small architecture.

The designed mobile toilet and the transformation of its surroundings, through its functionalities, should positively influence user behavior in terms of awareness of the value of protected natural resources, ecology, good accessibility practices.

The mobile toilet facility must be easy to clean and operate. The proposed exterior and interior (finishing) materials and design should take into account the year-round operation of the facility in the long term. The proposed materials should provide high quality and aesthetic workmanship, as well as high durability and resistance to damage and destruction.

The toilet should be equipped with GEBERIT brand products and other products offered by Geberit group companies.

"Creative cities" student competition

organizer: Cracow University of Technology, Zaporizhzhya National Technical University

Krakow University of Technology, together with Zaporozhye National Technical University, is organizing the second edition of an international student collage competition. This year's slogan is "Creative Cities" and works can be submitted until April 23 this year.

purpose

The purpose of the contest is to develop a graphic collage depicting the title "Creative Cities."

As the organizers explain - "Each city was formed and developed through countless creative activities. It was shaped in many simultaneous processes of planning, designing and building. The constant transformations that the urban fabric undergoes constantly require new ideas and decisions. Creativity accompanies cities, their managers and creators on many levels. An inspiring urban environment can also support the creativity of its residents, who fill and enliven it with their own activity. It is difficult to have a clear answer as to what kind of environment does this most effectively. Creativity can be served by both good organization and comfortable conditions, as well as an awareness of still unmet needs requiring changes and improvements. Motivations and pretexts for the creative processes taking place can therefore have a wide variety of backgrounds. "The theme of 'Creative Cities' is to inspire the presentation of interesting and original studies, and the contestants are free to interpret it."

The didactic goal of the competition is to demonstrate an awareness of the inner interdependence of the city with the environment and with man and his creative activity.

Thesubstantive goal of the competition is to create a work of high artistic merit carrying the answer of what "Creative Cities" are or what they are.

The organizers of the competition are the T. Kosciuszko University of Technology in Krakow and Zaporizhzhya National Technical University.

terms and conditions

The contest is an international, artistic student competition of one stage, which participants by application are admitted to participate in the competition. Participants in the competition may only be students of the Cracow University of Technology or Zaporizhzhya National University.

The object of the competition is to create a non-spatial (flat) collage in any technique and save it in PDF format, (maximum file size is 10 MB). The work should be saved so that it allows printing in A-3 format

Participants must demonstrate skills in creating compositions and synthesizing urban issues. The challenge of the competition is also a practical test of mastery of the technique of creating graphics of appropriate composition, belonging to professions, generally recognized as artistic. The emphasis of the work should be placed on indicating the characteristics of creativity in various areas related to the city and its many levels (social, economic, spatial structures, locational conditions, landscape).

Each person can submit a maximum of 2 works. Works can be made in both digital and analog technique (then

Two-stage competition for the architectural concept of the building of the Prof. Jan Sehn Institute of Forensic Expertise in Cracow.

organizer: Prof. Jan Sehn Institute of Forensic Expertise in Krakow, SARP branch in Krakow

This is the second approach to the two-stage competition for the architectural concept of the building of the Prof. Jan Sehn Institute of Forensic Expertise in Krakow. This time, the competition is being organized in cooperation with the SARP Krakow branch. The deadline for submitting applications to participate in the competition is March 10 this year.

This is the second approach to the competition for the architectural concept for the building of the Prof. Jan Sehn Institute of Forensic Expertise in Krakow. The rules ofthe earlier competition (announced in February 2022), organized by the Institute of Forensic Expertise, raised considerable objections in the architectural community. Only three projects were submitted to the competition, and due to appeals against the outcome, and the incompatibility of the submitted projects with the local development plan "Wesoła - region of Kopernika Street", the competition was cancelled in October 2022. You can read the full statement on the website of the purchasing platform.

Wiktor Bohenek wrote about the doubts related to the establishment of the MPZP in the article NIEWESOŁO NA WESOŁEJ, or how Krakow (doesn't) deal with spatial planning.

This time the competition is organized in cooperation with the Cracow branch of SARP and has been assigned the number 1037.

purpose

The main objective of the competition is to obtain the most advantageous concept for the development of the site and building of the Prof. Dr. Jan Sehn Institute of Forensic Expertise in Cracow in terms of functionality, aesthetics, operation and economy. The concept should fully utilize the possibilities of the plot and relate to the context of the existing urban fabric, and be consistent with the guidelines of the Local Spatial Development Plan (MPZP). The design should make maximum use of the area indicators prescribed in the MPZP in order to achieve the largest possible usable area of the facility.

terms and conditions

The competition is a two-stage, limited and implementation competition, i.e., in which the prizes are cash awards and an invitation to the competition participant of the selected competition work to negotiate a sole-source contract, in order to execute the subject of the contract based on the competition work.

The project is located in the buffer zone for the UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as in an area listed in the register of monuments - the urban and architectural complex of the Wesoła district, listed in the register of monuments under the number A-650 (decision of February 12, 1984).

The future of Wesoła was the subject of a workshop during the International Architecture Biennale 2021 in Krakow. You can read about the results of the work and discussion in the December issue of A&B[see A&B 12|2021].

It is assumed that the following departments will be moved from their current location to the new building:

  • department for handling opinion activities (ODO),
  • biological department,
  • toxicology department,
  • chemical department,
  • handwriting and document examination laboratory,
  • forensic informatics laboratory.

The building will also contain an administrative section, covering the activities of several organizational units (administrative, economic, financial and accounting, IT support, quality).

The competition concept should be the sum of spatial, functional and installation solutions that guarantee: rational investment costs, energy efficiency, optimal functional layout, attractive and durable aesthetic qualities and the most rational management of green areas. At the same time, it is advisable that the newly constructed object creates an architectural accent, raising the rank of the place where it will be located.

One of the tasks of the competition is the rational optimization of the space and program in terms of the investment budget, as well as the appropriate selection of areas for individual spaces in the above context. In this regard, the tasks of the competition participants will include the ergonomic arrangement of the program and functions in the facility, while ensuring correct and preferred by the organizer relations between program elements.

An important element of the site development project is greenery, due to its compositional qualities, close proximity to the Botanical Garden and proximity to the "Square on Wesola", which, according to the study and the guidelines of the MPZP, is to become a local center.
When designing the building, it is necessary to adopt the parameters of the minimum building partitions and maximum primary energy coefficient indexes of the building (EP), which are currently in force.

The functional layout should take into account the considerations related to the nature of the work, the specifics and the purpose of each laboratory in the facility. Due to the nature of the facility, the structural layout is crucial for the free arrangement of laboratory spaces in order to ensure adequate width of circulation paths in accordance with technical requirements (WT), occupational health and safety (OHS) and standards for testing laboratories, including requirements arising from accreditation under PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025 and good laboratory practice. When assuming the structural layout, the underground floor of the facility must be taken into account, where an underground garage, among other things, must be provided.

An important condition of the competition is that in the team at the stage of developing the competition concept and design documentation, there will be at least one person who has a construction license to design in the architectural specialty without limitations, and who has experience, consisting in the execution, in the lastwithin the last 10 years before the deadline for submission of applications for admission to the competition, (as author or co-author), at least one multi-discipline design documentation in the architectural specialty, on the basis of which a valid building permit was obtained, for the construction of a building housing biochemical research laboratories.

The estimated planned total cost of the project, including land development, is: PLN 110 million gross.

The maximum planned total gross cost of performing the subject of the service on the basis of the selected competition work, will not exceed the amount representing a maximum of 5.25% of the total gross cost of implementing the investment - PLN 5,775,000.

Only a study that:

  • is original (not infringing on the property rights of third parties),
  • does not contain a previously published concept,
  • does not violate the principle of anonymity,
  • is consistent with the subject of the competition mentioned in Chapter II,
  • does not contain variant solutions,
  • is sufficiently clear and complete to carry out its evaluation.

Communication is carried out through the competition platformhttps://epk.sarp.pl

    calendar

    • deadline for submission of applications for admission to the competition: until March 10, 2023 at 12:00 pm,
    • admission to the competition: until March 17, 2023,
    • requests for clarification of the content of the regulations: until April 21, 2023,

    • deadline for submission of study papers: until July 14, 2023, 3 p.m,
    • announcement of competition results: August 3, 2023.

    awards

Competition works will be judged according to the following equivalent criteria in their category:

    • attractiveness of the proposed architectural and development solutions,
    • functional and utility efficiency of the spaces and rooms of the new building,
    • functional correctness and applied technologies of laboratories and specialized studios,
    • application of environmentally friendly and energy-saving solutions in the new building and land development,
    • feasibility and economic optimization of the adopted solutions in terms of the investment budget,
    • the degree to which the proposed solutions take into account the cost of use and maintenance.

Participants whose competition works advance to the second stage and who submit a complete project will receive 15 thousand zlotys gross.

The organizer expects to award the following prizes in the competition:

    • 1st Prize - PLN 30 thousand gross and an invitation to negotiate on a sole-source basis.

Competition for students - What can you do for forests?

    organizer: WWF

The WWF has announced a competition to create a design for an outdoor installation that promotes sustainable forest management and forest management with care for nature. The competition is aimed at male and female students of art, design and architecture, as well as all creative people, fascinated by art, who are close to the idea of nature conservation.

    goal

"Nature conservation is becoming closer and closer to us, and in view of the changes that surround us, we are beginning to understand that a harmoniously functioning nature is crucial to our lives. However, in order to protect something well, one must first understand it - and we still lack this knowledge. As many as 93% of Polish women and men believe it is important to protect Poland's forests, but more than half do not know what sustainable forest management means, which is fundamental to the state of the forests. We are committed to making the public understand that a forest used in a sustainable way can perform all functions: ecological, socio-cultural and economic." - reads the contest website.

The goal of the contest is to educate the public and demonstrate that forests are not just furniture. The organizers want the installation to make the audience think and fit in with the campaign's idea - the forest is everything that surrounds us in life, all around us, including in everyday objects, and touch on the reasons why sustainable forest management and the use of certified wood are so important.

Competition for the development of an architectural concept for the modernization and expansion of the building of the Educational and Museum Center of the Roztocze National Park, together with land development and a path in the "treetops" and a viewing tower

    organizer: Roztocze National Park

Roztocze National Park has announced a one-stage implementation competition for the modernization and expansion of the Education and Museum Center in Zwierzyniec. The competition also calls for the design of an educational path and a viewing tower. The deadline for submitting works is April 28 this year.

    purpose

The purpose of the Competition is to obtain the best concept in terms of architecture, space and functional-utility, for the modernization and expansion of the RPN Education and Museum Center building, together with land development and an educational path in the "treetops" and a viewing tower in the area indicated in the appendices to the regulations.

    terms and conditions

The competition is an implementation, unlimited, one-stage competition.

The competition requires the submission of one competition work, and participants may be individuals, legal entities, organizational units without legal personality. Participants taking part in the competition jointly are obliged to establish a proxy authorized to represent them.

The subject of the competition is to create an architectural concept/visualization of the modernization and expansion of the RPN Educational and Museum Center building at 3 Beach Street in Zwierzyniec, together with land development and a path in the "crowns of the trees" and a viewing tower within the boundaries of the competition study, taking into account the indications and conditions specified by the RPN.

The planned task is related to the statutory activities of the Park. The task is oriented towards the ecological effect, the realization of the statutory objectives of the Roztocze National Park, and not the financial profit associated with the operation of the facilities. Tasks implemented in the project are aimed at educational activities and making the park accessible to tourism and promoting the idea of nature conservation.

TheEducation and Museum Center (OEM) was put into operation in 1994, as one of the first in Polish national parks. The increase in tourist traffic, the need to use modern technologies and forms of education, "green technologies", the implementation of new tasks facing national parks, and the decapitalization of infrastructure are forcing the expansion, modernization and adaptation of the OEM to new needs.

Theconstruction of an educational path "in the treetops" in the immediate vicinity of the OEM and the historic part of Zwierzyniec and Echo Ponds is intended to extend the tourist season and increase the attractiveness of the area of lesser natural values, adjacent to the tourist area of Zwierzyniec.

The construction of a tower in Panasówka is a measure aimed at defragmenting tourist traffic and relieving pressure on areas of natural value. Redirecting it, through the development of tourist attractions, to a peripheral area - the Park's buffer zone. The observation tower will provide a glimpse of the disappearing cultural harmonious landscapes of Roztocze in the region's edge zone.

The concept of the project should take into account architectural and communication and information assumptions in the sense of the Act of July 19, 2019 on ensuring accessibility for people with special needs. Each space should allow maximum independent and informed use. It should be accessible and free of architectural barriers, so that all rooms and accompanying facilities are accessible to people in wheelchairs or to people with other dysfunctions.

Detailed design guidelines can be found in Appendix 19.

The maximum planned total cost of completing the project in a finished state, including interior furnishings and landscaping in the scope will not exceed PLN 44,110,000 gross.

The maximum planned total cost of the execution of the object of service on the basis of the selected competition work will not exceed the amount of PLN 210,000 gross.

The competition work must unambiguously indicate spatial, functional, programmatic and other solutions relevant to the idea of the presented concept. In terms of graphics, the competition work must be characterized by the legibility of textual and drawing information.

The work should consist of a graphic part (boards in 100×70 cm format in a horizontal arrangement, in the number of up to 12 pieces) and a descriptive part (up to 32 pages of standard text in A4 format and additionally: a program table of the building, a table of the building parameters, a site balance table, other required by the regulations and law, and boards of the graphic part reduced to A3 format).

    prizes

The total amount allocated by the organizer for cash prizes and honorable mentions is PLN 70 thousand gross.

The competition provides for the following prizes:

    • 1st Prize - 40 thousand zlotys gross, and an invitation to negotiate under a sole-source contract,
    • II Prize - 20 thousand PLN gross,
    • Third Prize - 10 thousand PLN gross.

The works will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

    • aesthetics, quality and innovation of the adopted solutions,
    • implementation in relation to the existing building and spatial context,
    • functional and utility values of the adopted solutions,
    • technical and economic qualities of the adopted solutions.

    calendar

    • deadline for submission of competition works - until April 28, 2023, 3 pm,
    • announcement of results - by May 12, 2023,
    • post-competition exhibition - Q2/Q3 2023,

    • Pfu execution - four months from the date of signing the contract,
    • completion of the competition - October 16, 2023.

    jury

The next edition of the Kaira Looro international architectural competition is taking off. This year the challenge facing the architects is to design a school in Africa. The next edition of the Kaira Looro international architectural competition is taking off. This year the challenge facing the architects is to design a school in Africa. The winner(s) of the competition will not only have the opportunity to realize their idea, but will also receive a financial prize and an internship at Kengo Kuma's Japanese studio.

    target

57 million primary-school-aged children are out of school, more than half of them living in sub-Saharan Africa. Most schools in this part of the world have no toilets, checkrooms or cafeterias, and many students come to class hungry, sick or exhausted.

To address this problem, the organizers of the Kaira Looro competition are looking for an idea for a new school model that they stress will help raise the level of children's education, secure the right to learn, and provide the health care and mental and physical conditions necessary to develop each student's potential. The architecture of the building, its shapes and colors are to inspire confidence in the students, the community and the authorities, to create a place where every child will find himself and begin to build his future.

The elementary school project can be built on any plot of land in one of the rural areas in southern Senegal.

    conditions

The project should be planned in such a way that it can be built with the local community - be easy to build without the need for complicated equipment, use natural materials and blend in with the rural surroundings.

The building should be one-story with a maximum interior area of 650 square meters. The total cost of building materials alone must not exceed 70,000 euros.

The school should have six classrooms, offices, a meeting room for teaching staff, a laboratory, a sick room, a canteen, a storeroom and toilets.

The competition can be entered individually or in a team of up to five people. At least one member of the team should be under 35 years old.
    The registration fee is accordingly:
    • during early registration: 60 €
    • during standard registration: 90 €
    • during late registration: 120 €

Architectural competition "Tourist hostel on the mountain Hedgehog Water with restaurant and viewing terraces"

    organizer: IDEANOVA Foundation

The IDEANOVA Foundation has announced a two-phase international architectural competition for the building of a tourist hostel on the mountain of Jeżowa Woda (Beskid Wyspowy) with a restaurant and viewing terraces. The deadline for registration is March 30, 2023.

    purpose

The goal of the IDEANOVA Foundation, the organizer of the competition, is to stimulate creative imagination and initiate an intellectual experiment realized in the form of an artistically valuable spatial form, responding to the comprehensively understood needs of "thinking man". It is expected from the authors that the proposals for design solutions will be contextually, formally and content-wise adequate to the ideological assumptions of the competition and will serve to "discover" in time perspective, new ideas - useful and enriching the world of general human values.

The subject of the competition "Tourist hostel on the mountain Jeżowa Woda with restaurant and viewing terraces", is to develop an architectural concept of a tourist hostel located in the Beskid Wyspowy, on the mountain Jeżowa Woda. The designed object should be a place of modern character, with a form that looks into the distant future, while remaining in harmony with the surrounding nature. The highest floor should be above the treetops and be visible from all nearby peaks, yet dominate the landscape of the Island Beskid as little as possible.

The project should take into account the preservation of economic rationality, understood as a project to be carried out in the standard technologies currently used or innovative technologies, but at a cost that can be considered common sense for this type of building.

The competition organizer assures that it will make strenuous efforts to commission the Competition winner with a complete project to the extent necessary to obtain a valid building permit, and will make further efforts to obtain funds for the implementation of this project.

    terms and conditions

The Competition has an open, two-stage character and is organized as part of the cyclical architectural competitions of the IDEANOVA Foundation.

The competition entry must be written in one of the following languages: Polish, English, Italian, French, German or Spanish (this applies to both the drawing and descriptive parts of the competition entries).

The competition is organized for architects, designers, as well as other artists (including university students) and mixed teams (consisting, for example, of the author of the concept and the author of the technical side of the project).

Registration of participants in the competition is carried out via a form on the website and confirmation of acceptance of the application.

The competition is divided into two stages. In the first stage of the competition, participantssubmit competition works, which are their design proposals for the Tourist Hostel facility, accompanied by descriptive documentation, with reference to the clearly specified theme and motif of the competition.

In the second stage , participants selected by the jury after the first stage (a maximum of five projects), after making a "development" of the project, in the form of a three-dimensional visualization and / or in the form of a video file, drawings and a descriptive part, submit it for evaluation. Development is understood as detailing with the necessary construction and material details and possible refinement of the form. At this stage, the organizer provides for the possibility of organizing consultations with the participation of experts and / or members of the Jury. The meeting will be held with full preservation of anonymity of the competition participants.

The Limanowa Municipality has issued legally binding Conditions of Development (WZ) for the construction of the shelter, so the competition concept must be in accordance with them, and meet all the imposed criteria. The investor's idea is to build an object with parameters far exceeding the required minimum specified in the regulations, concerning mountain shelters, while maintaining compliance with the Conditions of Development.

An important element of the concept should be a preliminary visualization of the lighting of the facility itself, as well as the lighting coming from the facility (mainly the highest viewing floor), which will emphasize its artistic vision, but at the same time will not interfere too much with the natural environment and will not create permanent "light pollution."

Theshelter on top of Hedgehog Water must meet the following conditions:

    • the maximum number of beds, with the dimensions of the building and individual floors imposed by the GM, but on the other hand, the personal comfort of tourists is important, so there must be a centering of these proportions,
    • The project may provide for men's dormitories and women's dormitories or other such solutions, but separate rooms (2- and 3-bed rooms) of the "3 stars +" hotel type must also be designed. Coming up with an innovative system that optimizes living space, but at the same time gives the impression of freedom, will be highly appreciated,
    • the project must provide for a public functional kitchen, communal bathrooms and a form of small spa,
    • the restaurant area including the kitchen should be suitable for banquets for 120 - 150 people,
    • the highest viewing floor, in addition to the obvious viewing function, must also be adapted for cafeteria and restaurant service during banquets (however, assuming that food is transported by elevator (second - cargo) from the kitchen at the main restaurant hall,
    • the top viewing floor should have a universal character, that is, it should also have the function of an exhibition hall, designed for meetings and visual (e.g., with the function of a planetarium) or give the possibility of adapting other functions, such as an amateur astronomical observatory. Competition participants may propose other functions,
    • the usable height of the top floor must be a minimum of 3.5 m clear,
    • the design of additional architectural features of the top floor, such as pivoting, or tilting or sliding roof, glazed floors or terraces, will be an additional advantage in the evaluation, as long as it is economically reasonable.
    • it is necessary to design a functional and fast elevator and convenient stairway or ramp communication, meeting the standard fire conditions for buildings of this height, and the requirements for accessibility for people with disabilities,
    • innovation of concept would be highly desirable here, due to the main goal of creating a timeless structure, but this must be done while optimizing costs.

It should be emphasized that in the first stage of the competition - the most important is the architectural and artistic vision, based on rational and economic considerations.

    prizes

The total amount allocated for prizes is: from 6 thousand to 10 thousand euros.

The following prizes will be awarded in the Competition:

    • Main Prize - 5 thousand euros,
    • Audience Award - 1 thousand euros.
    • possible honorable mentions - a maximum of 4 honorable mentions, each with a maximum of 1,000 euros (according to the free decision and distribution made by the Jury, which also means that honorable mentions may not be awarded).

    Evaluation criteria:

    • consistency of content and form,
    • artistic qualities,
    • timelessness of the architectural idea,
    • functional qualities,
    • adequate to the function and diversity of locations scale of the object and its details,
