Can the digital revolution save our cities? Or will technology become the new foundation for urban development in the 21st century? Faced with growing climate, social and infrastructure challenges, cities are increasingly turning to digital tools to meet the demands of the modern age. The 5th edition of the Digital Urban Regeneration Congress is a space where experts, urban planners, scientists and local government officials come together to answer questions about the future of our cities in the era of digitization. The partner of the event, which will begin on April 9 in Lodz, is Architecture&Business.
V. edition of the Digital Regeneration of Cities congress will feature 17 thematic sessions with talks, discussions and talks on the impact of digitization on sustainable urban development, regenerative issues, cyber security and the social, ethical and economic consequences of progressive digitization.
Digital technologies bring numerous benefits to cities, improving the quality of life for residents, fostering community engagement, enabling faster response to crises, and taking care of the environment. Investment in modern technologies fosters the development of innovative industries, attracts investment and supports the local economy
- says Minister of Digitization Krzysztof Gawkowski.
digital city
Digital technologies have significantly changed the way cities are designed. According to Tomasz Majda, President of the Society of Polish Town Planners, building spatial policies for cities based on Geographic Information Systems is playing an increasingly important role in modern urban planning practice. Geographic Information Systems are widely used, which allow location data to be linked to extensive databases in a readable way. And this is just the beginning, as the digital revolution allows spatial information to be transferred into the third dimension, creating so-called digital twins, or BIM-based spatial models of cities. Digital tools improve decision-making and the creation and evaluation of options for planning documents. The amount of information generated in this way is very large, but it requires proper processing, understanding and implementation in the planning process. These extremely complex issues will become the subject of one of the sessions at the Digital Urban Regeneration Congress.
urban planning for the 21st century
The session, titled Digital Technologies in Urban Planning and Design , will feature two panels led by planning specialists, including Tomasz Majda, president of the Society of Polish Town Planners, who will point out the most important digital tools used in modern urban planning, or Markus Hedorfer, president of the European Council of Town Planners, who will discuss the 30-year history of Geographic Information Systems. The two panels will be followed by a discussion featuring, among others, Paweł Hałat (Coalition of Krakow Movements "Together for the City"), Dorota Kamrowska-Załuska (Gdansk University of Technology, TUP) and Agnieszka Bieda (AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow).
faces of the digital revolution
However, the digital revolution affects many other "components" of cities. Numerous panels and lectures will feature, among others, Tomasz Jurczak (Head of UNESCO Chair of Ecohydrology and Applied Ecology; University of Lodz), who will talk about the role of digital technologies in urban water management, Yiorgos Chrysanthou (President of CYENS Center of Excellence), who will introduce issues related to the operation of augmented reality in urban spaces, or Mariusz Jablonski (Technical University of Lodz), who will moderate a discussion on the potential of triple digital transformation in the development of cities and buildings.
