"They lived together, they died together." Maria Luczynska-Bruzda and Jan Bruzda passed away

Maria Luczyńska-Bruzda and Jan Bruzda, professors at the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology, passed away on January 13. "They died one after the other in their deep old age. They were inseparable," wrote the couple's daughters.

Maria Luczynska-Bruzda was born in 1933. For many years she was associated with the Landscape Department at the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology, where she earned the title of professor in 1997.

She pioneered the idea of landscape protection as a harmonious combination of nature and culture. She always emphasized the importance of protecting natural and cultural heritage. Her passion, deep understanding and unparalleled perspective on the relationship between man and nature inspired students, scientists, politicians and social activists alike," reads the Facebook page of the Cracow University of Technology.

Jan Bruzda, born in 1930, was in turn a lecturer at the Department of Drawing and Sculpture of the faculty, and received the title of professor in 1994.

Mr. Professor Jan Bruzda was an artist in the full sense of the word. His work was highly regarded at home and abroad. His unique works, including his concepts for the use of plastics in architecture, were a breakthrough in art and science , PK representatives wrote.

Mr. and Mrs. Professors were an extraordinary duo, complementing each other intellectually and creatively. Both were prominent figures, distinguished professors of the Faculty of Architecture at Krakow University of Technology, where their work and steadfastness shaped successive generations of students and colleagues. Their presence together was a source of inspiration for many communities, which they devotedly served throughout their lives," reads the Facebook page of the Krakow University of Technology.

They formed a compatible marriage for nearly 70 years. They died just hours apart.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 10:00 am in the chapel at the Salwator cemetery in Cracow.
