New Katowice square designed by Medusa Group

20 of September '23

An urban square between Katowice's .KTW office buildings was opened a few weeks ago. It is intended to complement the new character of this part of Katowice. The project was carried out by Silesia-based Medusa Group.

A small city square has appeared next to the .KTW office buildings, which is to become a place of relaxation and entertainment for employees from the office space and users visiting this part of the city. As the co-initiators point out - the new space is to complete the investment processes in this part of Katowice.

With the opening of the city square, we are crowning the .KTW project. It has been more than 8 years during which we have joined the metamorphosis of Katowice, realizing a unique architectural concept in the city center," says Tomasz Domogała, owner and chairman of the TDJ Supervisory Board.

The .KTW project, as the development is called, was a project created in consultation with the Katowice City Hall. The aim of this development was primarily to try to create a connection between the .KTW office buildings and the immediate surroundings, including Katowice's Culture Zone (designed by JEMS Architekci).

The square and office buildings fit in with our idea of creating spaces where we ourselves would like to be. They enter into synergy with the Katowice Culture Zone, providing not only space for work and development, but also for leisure," says Maciej Wojcik, managing partner at TDJ Estate.

The amphitheatrical character of the place is mainly due to the idea of organizing events in the form of concerts or cinema screenings in the new square. The concept was developed by Przemo Lukasik 's studio Medusa Group. The same studio did the design of the office buildings.KTW.

The podium with stairs is the focal point. Immediately behind the place where the stage can be placed were two-meter-high trees surrounded by urban furniture. The question is raised primarily by the amphitheater section - will it be possible to use it in case of high temperatures, without adequate roofing and shade? Partial greening in the form of pots and surroundings does not provide adequate cooling on a hot day.

The square also tries to refer to its neighborhood and the history of this place on the map of Katowice. Sandstones were placed next to the trees, which decorated the building of the State Railway Directorate in Katowice, which was located here many years ago.

pytanie rodzi przede wszystkim część amfiteatralna - czy w przypadku wysokich temperatur, bez odpowiedniego zadaszenia, korzystanie z niej będzie możliwe.

new center under construction

The space that came into being with the construction of the office building, the Culture Zone or theNOSPR (design: Konior Studio) has been trying to redefine the face of Katowice for many years - sometimes one gets the impression that the role of this development more than cultural and office functions was to redefine the position of Katowice, and to restore pride to the city and its residents. The new center, despite the fact that it has been creating a new image for Katowice for many years, is still subject to change, redevelopment and redefinition - which shows how Katowice remains a city alive, interesting and ready to transform into a modern metropolis. Without marginalizing the mistakes made in this process, even a small urban square shows this direction.
