Museums in the institutional sense are cultural institutions. In the architectural sense - edifices in which objects of artistic, scientific or historical value are collected and presented. In addition to the exhibition function, they also serve other functions: for example, educational or research. As Hans Belting, an art historian, confessed years ago, modern museums are not for exhibiting contemporary art, but for showing the world through the prism of art. For a long time, the postmodern Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao was considered the most spectacular realization of an exhibition institution. Nowadays, there are more and more museums around the world, and their style varies - often determined by the nature of the collection, the environment of neighboring buildings or the landscape. This part of the portal belongs to them. The National Museum of Qatar in Doha by Atelier Jeans Nouvel, museum in Tianjin, designed by Bernard Tschumi Architects, or a contemporary variation on the theme of grottoes at Lascaux, with Snøhetta behind it, are just some of them.

Galleries are divided into commercial and non-commercial. The former are spaces belonging to the art market, and therefore their main function boils down to selling works of art and antiques and handicrafts. The latter serve similar purposes to museums. Some are static and unchanging over time, while others, like animals shedding their moult, cyclically take on a new form, such as the annual Serpentine Pavilion in London.
Początki pracowni sięgają 1986 roku, kiedy to w ramach zespołu projektowego Wydziału Architektury Politechniki Gdańskiej powstał projekt osiedla Dąbrowa w Gdyni. Na fali przemian ustrojowych i zwrotów gospodarczych liderzy zespołu: Jerzy Kaczorowski, Jacek Droszcz i Adam Drohomirecki w 1989 roku zakładają jedną z pierwszych prywatnych firm projektowych znaną pod nazwą „Kwadrat”. Pozycja firmy została ugruntowana po zdobyciu kilku głównych nagród w konkursach architektonicznych i urbanistycznych. Pracownia prowadzi działalność projektową zarówno w dziedzinie architektury mieszkaniowej jak i użyteczności publicznej. Potencjał twórcy biura oparty został na wieloletnich doświadczeniach projektantów oraz kreatywności i zespole młodych architektów i studentów architektury. Pracownia ma charakter autorski, lecz każdy architekt może tu rozwinąć swoją indywidualność i pasję twórczą. Od 1995 roku pracownia posiada własną siedzibę w Gdyni – Kolibkach w wyremontowanym przez siebie zabytkowym traku wodnym i jest prowadzona przez architekta Jacka Droszcza i Bazylego Domstę. Studio Kwadrat brało udział w wielu konkursach architektonicznych zdobywając w sumie ponad 40 nagród i wyróżnień.
