Can a 19th-century tenement in Krakow's Kazimierz district find room for an East Asian accent mixed with organic, modern solids? Such a mix was proposed by Joanna Spiewak, one of the distinguished graduates of the postgraduate program in interior and exhibition architecture at Politechnika Rzeszowska. The project was coordinated by Dr. Katarzyna Kuchejda.

The designed apartment is dedicated to young people who often spend time away from home. It is intended to serve them mainly for relaxation and for occasional meetings with friends. The author was keen to make the most functional use of the day space, at the expense of the night one.

I would like to achieve a bit of modern character of the interior with a feeling as if it had always been there and was going to last a few more decades

- comments the author.

The apartment welcomes with a small vestibule, leading directly to the living room with kitchenette. The kitchen cabinetry has been elongated, and by extending all the way to the ceiling, it creates a barrier. This allows to visually and functionally separate the spaces from each other. A washing machine and a shoe cabinet have also been hidden there.

The kitchen is distinguished by a colorful, expressive countertop covered with reddish Cosmopolitan quartzite. The furniture cabinet was made of Egger Casella furniture board in light oak color. The composition is complemented by a brass patina sheet, from which, among other things, the hood was made.

The dining area is a round black table with a stable metal frame. It is accompanied by chairs, also of spherical shape, from NGDesign. Their vacuum-painted black metal frame cuts clearly from the soft texture of the patterned seat and back. They correspond with the creamy white irregularly shaped sofa, which appears to levitate above the floor surface thanks to hidden legs. In harmony with the living room space remains the selected low round coffee table with a warm, deep color of mangrove wood. The TV, which completes the living room composition, can simultaneously be viewed from the perspective of the bedroom, thanks to the rotating stand on which it is placed.

Interesting solutions were also used in the bedroom. It is separated from the rest of the apartment by a glass door with minimalist ornaments in the shape of an arch. A linen lamp from Oi Soi Oi hangs above the simple double bed, bringing a delicate East Asian touch to the interior.

The bathroom, the entrance to which is located in the entrance vestibule, bears industrial features. This is mainly influenced by microcement, covering the walls. It is eclectically contrasted by cherry-brown tiles, from which the countertop under the sink is created. The roundness of the bathroom wall, together with the irregularly shaped mirror, make the bathroom interior seem almost organic.

The author also calculated the finishing budget of the apartment. Furnishings, finishing walls, floors, ceilings, without the cost of contractors' labor, amounted to about 150 thousand zlotys.

Joanna Spiewak's project is another proposal for interior design in a 19th-century tenement house on Skałeczna Street in Cracow, which is distinguished by an eclectic selection of finishes and furniture. Other designs for this interior were also proposed by Aleksandra Staszkiewicz and Mariola Sobolewska.
