Although it is said that a house is created not by the building, but by the people in it, the proper design of the building is not without significance for the well-being of its inhabitants. She designed the Family Children's Home in Podkowa Leśna based on Weronika Jaworska, and her design was included in the catalog of diplomas awarded by {tag:University}.
The project was located in the center of Podkowa Leśna, located 25 kilometers southwest of Warsaw, near the transportation hub connecting Grodzisk Mazowiecki with the capital. The neighborhood is distinguished by its planned urban layout, abundance of green areas and preserved architecture from the early 20th century.

children's home a friendly and safe place
The design part of her engineering work was preceded by the author's in-depth analysis of the actual need for orphanages in Poland, as well as an analysis of the inspiration provided by such facilities as the Children's Home in Kerteminde, Denmark, and the Happy Orphanage in Amsterdam. The author was inspired by the ideas surrounding those projects.
A house must be like a small city if it is to be a real home, a city like a big house if it is to be a real city
- was one of the slogans accompanying the Amsterdam project.
As part of her engineering work, the author also draws attention to the consequences of a law introduced in 2011 to ban the construction of new children's homes.

The goal of the project was to create a friendly, safe space dedicated to disadvantaged children. The body of the building, the interior and the surroundings were designed so that the orphanage would offer them a substitute for family warmth and love.
modular and intuitive spatial layout
The project is characterized by a universal, intuitive and clear layout of rooms spread over two floors, providing private spaces for children to both study and rest. The layout is based on modules that can be adapted to the current needs of the center. A total of 12 users are provided for: 2 parents, biological children and foster children from age 3 to adulthood. In addition to individual and private bedrooms, a study for work, a playroom and various proposals for combining the kitchen with the living room and dining room have been designed for them.

The building is based on a mixed wood structure, formed by a main post and beam system supplemented by a frame wall. Thanks to the selected wood finishing materials in natural colors, the object corresponds with the surrounding green areas as well as the neighboring architecture.

The selected plot is located at 9 Sportova Street, well connected with the entire city. There are also two elementary schools nearby, numerous stores and recreational places such as a community center, skate park and playgrounds. The designed building has been moved away from the access road. The plot is covered with a recreational-type lawn, among which pre-existing as well as newly designed trees grow. In addition, the author has planned a path of an educational nature, as well as two playgrounds and themed gardens.

Weronika Jaworska's engineering thesis, which included the design of the Family Children's Home, was included in the "Catalogue of the most interesting diplomas 2023" prepared by the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology. The promoters of the thesis were Dr. Anna Grabowska and Slawomir Kowal.
