04 of May '20

Due to the pandemic, this is another competition whose winners were not awarded at the gala. This by no means diminishes the importance of the event! New apartments will be built as part of the Mieszkanie Plus program in Wrocław's Zakrzów district. Among the awarded BE DDJM Architekci, Kurylowicz&Associates, 22ARCHITEKCI and B2 Studio.

On Thursday, April 30, the architectural and urban planning competition for the concept of multi-family and commercial development was settled. The main objective of the competition organized by PFR Nieruchomości S.A. and Polski Holding Nieruchomości S.A. was to select the best project for a residential development to be built between Zatorska Street and Odolanowska Street in Wroclaw.

Out of 73 projects submitted, the jury selected three first places and one honorable mention. The prize pool in the competition amounted to PLN 245 thousand, in addition, the winner of the main prize received an invitation to negotiate the execution of the design documentation of the Wroclaw housing estate.

First place

The first prize went to the Cracow architectural office BE DDJM Architekci. This is how the chairman of the board of PFR Nieruchomości S.A. justifies the choice. Wojciech Caruk:

The first prize went to the BE DDJM studio, among other things, for great urban planning, an interesting idea of neighborhood units, and for great attention to social values, because this is a very important element for us.

Tomasz Górnicki, vice president of the management board for investments at Polski Holding Nieruchomości S.A.
says this about the winning concept:

I would like to congratulate the winners and all participants of the competition. The authors of the winning project have managed to combine residential and public functions in an exceptionally harmonious way, creating excellent living and relaxation conditions for the residents of the future estate. This is an example of modern architectural thought, thanks to which new, resident-friendly places are being created in harmony with nature and ensuring the comfort of life. We are happy that thanks to such projects we can jointly transform Polish cities, and in Wroclaw itself create a new urban space where one wants to live and live. We hope that such projects will also inspire other urban planning projects, planned and implemented in the near future, opening cities to the changing needs of their residents.

Zbigniew Maciekow assures that BE DDJM Architects' project is a project for our times. It has been recognized for its adaptability, open to change, which is extremely necessary in the current reality.

2nd place

The jury awarded the second prize to the Kurylowicz&Associates studio. This is what chairman Wojciech Caruk says about it:

Second prize to Kurylowicz&Associates for beautiful architecture and simultaneous use of standardization and repetition to reduce costs, which is not at all easy to combine.

Third place

The third prize went to 22ARCHITECTS, who....

...proposed a very high quality of common areas and their interesting layout. - As Wojciech Caruk points out.

Honorable mention

Honorable mention was awarded to B2 Studio for....

...extremely interesting historical analysis for the area, capturing and leaving the historical identity of the concept. - states chairman Wojciech Caruk.

Competition Court

The projects were evaluated by the Competition Court, headed by the Director of the National Institute of Architecture and Urbanism Boleslaw Stelmach. The submitted works were also evaluated by representatives of the City Hall in Wroclaw, members of the Wroclaw branch of SARP, experts from Polski Holding Nieruchomości S.A. and the PFR Nieruchomości company.

Concentration of development in strongly integrated neighborhood units with simultaneous expansion toward public spaces seems to be almost a universal principle. The doubts and emotions that accompanied our discussions also testify to the innovation of solutions . And it is this potential, the unique opportunity to test this project, which requires like any other modification in real reality, that makes me already look forward to its implementation," states Piotr Fokczynski, Architect of the City of Wroclaw.
