The Mood for wood international design workshops will again visit Poznan after a year's break. This time their target will be Strzeszyn - the city's youngest district. Will the young designers help residents/residents to tame this space?

For the 14th time students and young designers from Poland, Germany and Hungary will meet to jointly design and build urban furniture with their own hands - not only for the city, but first of all with its inhabitants/residents in mind. This year's edition of the Mood for wood workshop will take place from August 28 to September 8, 2025 in Poznań under the motto: New Territory. For 12 days, participants will focus on the new, fast-growing Strzeszyn neighborhood, where they will work with the local community to create concrete, functional and thoughtful interventions in public space.

more than a project - a full creative process

Mood for wood is more than a typical student workshop. It is a mature, complex process that begins with dialogue and learning about the real needs of residents, and ends with a finished, physically existing object. Participants - with the support of renowned architects and experienced carpenters - go through all stages of design: from ideation to public consultation to construction. Work takes place in four design groups, with each team implementing its own intervention in a selected location in Strzeszyn.

How are the workshops different from other similar initiatives? The key element here is participation - participants not only work "for" residents, but also actively co-create solutions with them. Only after gaining community approval can they move on to ordering materials and implementing projects.

four places - four needs

This year's edition of Mood for wood focuses on four places, located in different points of the Strzeszyn district. Each of them represents a different function and different needs of the community:

  • Mini market - a space for daily meetings and local commerce will appear at the site of the former bus terminal at Horace and Ovidius streets.

  • Green classroom - an educational installation will be built in the Environmental Education Park near the school, allowing learning among greenery.

  • Integration zone - Albert Camus Park will be enriched with a space for neighborhood meetings and joint activities.

  • A place of rest - the wild beach on Lake Strzeszyński will gain a new, restful form of small architecture.

All interventions will be created in a very short period of time - from concept to installation - and their form will be a response to local needs, available resources and joint findings of the project teams and residents/residents.

new territory - can it be tamed?

Strzeszyn is a neighborhood that has been developed for more than 30 years, but still lacks a sufficient number of common places that would facilitate orientation in space and foster integration. More houses, blocks of flats and terraced houses are being built here, but the public space has not kept up with the pace of urbanization. Can a few temporary wooden installations make a real difference to residents' quality of life? The organizers of the workshop are convinced that yes. Small actions - if well rooted in context - can initiate larger changes and inspire further initiatives.
